1 in 600 Americans have signed Conyers Letter
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 01:10 PM by Hissyspit
assuming it has now reached 500,000 signatures. That is a gold record in album sales, according to Wikipedia. (300 Million Americans. 225 adult Americans, so 1 in 450 adult Americans; thanks, kipling!)

One in 600 Americans who have HEARD of the letter AND found time to go SIGN it, want our fake president to explain his sorry behavior.

2. I'm thinking they think they don't have time for 1,000,000, but...
if they did get that many it would be 1 out of 300!

That should be the number we use.

6. Oh, yeah. I meant to qualify.
Think of the Americans who are really young, incapacitated in hospitals, can't find time to sign, are in Antarctica, don't have Internet access, etc.

7. 225 million, I think
Which would mean one in 450 adult Americans had signed that letter.

15. 225 million would be very fair estimate the Census Bureau says
220,377,406 over the age of 18 as of 7/1/2004. Release Date of the report: June 1, 2005.

20. Over age 16 as of 7/1/2004: 228,621,674 so it is 1:460 US
Citizens over the age of 16 that have signed the DSM petition if we round up to say that there are now 230,000,000 Americans over the age of 16.

The over age 16 as of 7/1/2004: 228,621,674... is from
<http://www.census.gov/popest/national/asrh/NC-EST2004-sa.html>

It'd be nice to know how many people over the age of 16 have access to a computer on which they could sign -- there is, of course, a huge socioeconomic gap in our information age...

who have signed the petition, and I imagine there have been.

8. Nice! If MoveOn.org has 2.3 million 'members' -
The US Census Clock says 296,347,023 - so you are being generous by saying 1 in 600 US Citizens has signed the Downing Street Minutes petition -- you could push it to 1 in 593.

If MoveOn.org has over 2.3 million members - see link below - then why can't we get at least 1,000,000 signatures on the petition? Rep. Conyers' and MoveOn need to deliver the first 500,000 now to push the issue - but if they leave the petition up and we all keep pushing on- and off-line - it seems realistic that we could get to 1,000,000.

10. I was deliberately being generous. I would like to see 1,000,000.
And have posted about it before. 1,000,000 is simple, symbolic. Maybe they/Conyers are worried about time-constraints and timing, etc.

28. Unfortunately, Americans WILL get lied into war...
and they should have known better. We'd been through ALL the necessary lessons before. No excuse. 9/11? Not an excuse. Reasons? Yes. Excuses, no. Sorry, I will FOREVER be unforgiving for what has happened over the past five years. It should NOT have happened and it only happened with America's consent.

O8)

Here is my standard letter to the Media:

Dear Sir/Madam:

As you know, on May 1 of this year a document now commonly referred to as “|The Downing Street Memo” was released into the British Press. This document raises serious question about how the administration was handling intelligence related to Iraq and appears to suggest that the Bush Administration had already decided on war when publicly it was claiming that no such decision had been made. Now further documents have been released in the British media which cast even further doubts.

These documents and perhaps other documents suggest that the Bush administration was determined to “fix intelligence” around a predetermined policy. Some of these documents make it clear that the administration had no credible plan for dealing with the post-war occupation.

It is most disturbing that there has been a virtual media blackout regarding “The Downing Street Memo” and other disturbing documents.

Even more disturbing is the absence in the America media of any credible in-depth follow-up discussion or coverage regarding strong, credible and independent evidence that the Bush Administration intentionally mislead the U.S. Congress, the media and the American people.

I do hope you will accept the responsibility to address this issue and provide serious investigative journalism into this matter.

Furthermore, on Thursday June 16, 2005, Rep. John Conyers, Jr., ranking minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, and other House members will hold a hearing to consider testimony concerning the Downing Street minutes and questions of possible fixing of prewar intelligence. I do hope you will be giving full coverage to these events.

Sincerely,

It showed how many people had signed via their website. They were up to 450,000 signatures by mid-day last Friday. Must be way more by now. Has anyone seen numbers?
