September 11, 2001….Approximately 3,000 died in a terrorist attack. Among the Government’s response was the Patriots Act, a suspension of certain civil rights protected by the Bill of Rights, part of the Constitution.
From 1989 until 1991, 360,000 people died from intentional firearm injury during the 11-year period. Nearly 54% were categorized as suicides, while more than 45% were called homicides. In the time between September 11, 2001 and today nearly 115,200 Americans suffered gun related deaths. Nothing is being done because it is a constitutional right to own guns.
On one hand the politicians have no problem suspending constitutional rights; while on the other they are hide-bound to protect the constitutional rights of gun ownership.

2. There was some Senate debate a few years ago.... |
|
perhaps Ashcroft being questioned in the debate over creating the Department of Homeland Security. It is not coming to me right now.
But I recall cheering on some Senator (also can't remember the name) asking hard questions about whether RKBA should be covered under the legislation. Of course, it wasn't.
And I don't recall Ashcroft really answering the questions...just evading.

3. Funny that you compare two numbers...one representing a one-day.. |
|
period, and one representing an 11 year period. Kinda arbitrary, isn't it? Why not go for a 20 year period and make the difference look even bigger?
Oh, and if you're 115,200 is accurate through today, the gun-rate death has gone down about 8%.
Now, I agree that the numbers are horrible, and I agree with your dislike of the Patriot Act. Just not sure I would lump it in with the Second Amendment.

To the arbitrative and illogical nature of legislation…it may be due to the fact that no one is paying big bucks to protect civil liberty…certainly not the big bucks that the gun manufacturers are paying.
One day, one year, one decade…the numbers are the same…on one hand we destroy civil liberties, enter into an illegal war, and commit maleficence of political office, while on the other there is no limit to which our politicians will go to protect gun ownership.

I almost forgot....during the same 11 year period there were no deaths due to terrorist attacks on continental US targets..but the gun deaths happened...and continue to happen...so your point is correct the number will continue to grow.
