For those who would back Kurita over Harold Ford read this. . .
I'm not sure of its accuracy however if there is any truth to this you may reconsider backing her over Ford, talk about biting your nose off to spite your face. Lets stop the knee jerk politics

Rosalind Kurita
Kurita's positions on major issues have been accurately described by a previous post. However, these are reasons for Democracy for Tennessee NOT to support her bid for the U.S. Senate. She makes Harold Ford, Jr. look very progressive. Any review of Kurita's print ads or her television commercials in this most recent election would make it clear that she's no progressive. She generally employed a "guns, God, and gays" strategy to win re-election to the state Senate. In the South, many Democrats feel the need to take conservative positions on social issues, but if you're a "real" Democrat, you don't lead with those issues! But that's what she did. She's an extremely ambitious opportunist. She's also a very hard-hitting, some would say vicious, campaigner who definitely believes in using opposition research and running negative ads.

1. Ford sounds alot worse than he is.
He's not inspiring to me at least, but if he can win, I support him 100%.

Not all of them were as negative as the one that you posted here.

5. Her views on abortion
-snip-
Kurita, a nurse by profession, also has a middle of the road position on abortion, saying she only sees it as permissible when the life of the mother is in danger or there are cases of rape or incest.
"I think everyone is pro-life," Kurita says. "Nobody is for abortion. I also believe women should be able to make their own health care choices. Government should not be able to intrude into what should be a personal, family decision."

Go ahead support her over Ford, it just makes so much sense.

9. THAT's middle of the road?
What's conservative? If only Tennessee had a real progressive choice, unfortunately they wouldn't get elected.

Why is it the states like Tennessee, poor states that most need liberal legislators to protect the population from bad business tricks and losing social services.

But then again, if these states voted progressive, they wouldn't be poor states.

6. Ford's a moderate, but I don't know why he gets so much heat here.
I like him. He's a moderate, and as a Southern mod has to have a somewhat red state streak in him. He's a loyal Dem though, and as you've pointed out, Kurita's record is clearly worse.

7. Well, they sound like good reasons to vote Green.
Fortunately, I don't live in Tennessee. But, my progressive brother-in-law does and I will advise him of your post. He loathes Ford and the DLC.

12. It's really early and I don't understand why you seem to be so
forceful of shutting down any mention that there is a woman who is also running for FrankenFrist's seat. Why are you only posting the negative comments about Kurita from the DFT blog page? There are more positive comments about her there, too.

Why do you seem to be getting so upset that some of us in TN don't like Ford? It's not just the TN posters on DU. I know a lot of people in my little red community who are very pissed off at Ford and have been for quite some time.

If you can come up with a better candidate than either Ford or Kurita, I'll be happy to entertain that idea.

Ford's republican-lite stance will hurt him in the long run. The white folks that he seems to be trying to pander to while pissing in the faces of long-time dems, will vote for him when hell freezes over. For these folks, his race will trump everything else.

13. I have no problem with people being against Ford, however. . .
. . .I think people should not be against him just because he spoke out against Dean. If Ford isn't the guy so be it, however don't go voting in someone who may be worse just because you don't like him. I totally respect the wishes and choices of the the TN Dems, just choose a candidate who can win. . .that is all I ask.

14. Has nothing to do with his remark about Dean. There was a long
list of crap that he's pulled. And how would we know at this date who a winning candidate might be? I do know that I've had MANY devoted dems tell me that will not vote for Ford.

sent to whomever wins. I just hope everyone's hatred of Ford does not give you someone worse. . .
