Rape victims victimized again by bush theocracy
The federal government is siding squarely with religious conservatives. Dr. Michael Weaver helped draft national guidelines for rape victims, which strongly recommended offering the morning-after pill.

But when the Justice Department released the final version, all mention of emergency contraception had been removed.

"If indeed this prevents an unwanted pregnancy then that subsequently prevents abortions down the line," says Weaver of St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.

Some 25,000 women become pregnant from rape each year.

That's why women were put on this planet: to be fleshy glory holes to the ruling menfolk.

"If ovulation has occurred, there's a potential for new life in that woman, so then the church's responsibility is to protect both the woman and the new baby," says Alia Keys, coordinator of the Office of Marriage and Family for the Archdiocese of Denver.

:wtf: god protect us from the arrogance of those who claim to follow your teachings. amen.

6. Apparently a federal document

For hospitals and health care professionals on the proper protocol for treating rape victims. Justice has an Office for Victims of Crime that does such publications, although I would think that evidence collection would also play a role.

Here's a link to what is probably the publication in question:

http://www.ncjrs.org/pdffiles1/ovw/206554.pdf

Interesting that at no point do they name the task force members involved in writing this paper. I've actually worked on similar projects for DOJ (on arson and bombing investigations) and there's always a large group of folks in the field who hash out the content. Generally, the government will print the names of the task force members quite prominently. Wonder what they're trying to hide by not listing this info?

Wish I still was in contact with my former coworkers -- I'd love to hear about the behind-the-scenes fights. (Once, in the process of writing one of these reports, sat back and watched as a committee argued for 40 minutes over whether to use "a" or "the" in the report.)

5. to the surprise of no one....
it is becoming more and more obvious that we need to get an underground network going to provide women with birth control, the morning after pill, and even abortions, before Roe is overturned. The theocracy has already taken hold, and we must do what we can to protect women NOW!

7. Need to get the word out
if they will not give you Plan B, get a doctor to give you just a one month's supply of ordinary BC pills. If you take two a day of them for a few days, you will get the same effect as Plan B.

They want to subjugate and control women. And I want them all to know that the hate is mutual.

27. Yes, they hate us...
Most of all, though, they fear us. They know that if women worldwide band together, we have the power to change things in a big way. By keeping us demonized, humiliated, and under their control, they try to overcome their fears.

We have the numbers, it's up to us to women everywhere to speak out against the wars which men like Bush, and Cheney, choose to start for personal gain.

I feel more in common with a worried mother and grandmother in Iraq, wondering how many of my family members have to die, and how to feed them if they live, than I do with any of these gutless cowards. I can understand the pain of a woman who has lost her husband, or father, or brother, or son, or the father who has lost a wife, a daughter, a mother, much more than I can ever understand those who start wars for personal gain.

They apparently believe, or profess to, in the concept of a God of vengeance and wrath. I hope they enjoy their eternal stay in hell.

13. Every Day In every way I hate these people more and more.
I hate the bush administration more and more. What kind of sick freak is the red god? I am glad I worship Jesus Christ who gave us the wisdom and reason to end these womens tragic suffering. Can't these goosestepping red god Idol worshipers see that the mother and child have a symbiotic relationship with each other? GW and Fristian God sucks, Jesus and the Blue God rules. How can you tell the difference between the two? The blue god loves everyone regardless of party affilation, orientation, or stance on reproductive issues, and the blue god told us not to be a scribe or pharisee on "general" ethical issues. Infact the bible doesn't mention abortion one way or the other.

On a side note is it just me or does anyone else fear the day that they outlaw democrats from churches. Makes you wonder whats next. Red and Blue hospitals and drinking fountains. Is it just me or can you feel us slouching toward Bethlehem.

17. Does anyone else recall the DUers who said that number was tiny...
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 07:23 PM by Ripley
As I recall one was a female DUer who claimed only a few women get pregnant from rape. 25,000 is a huge fucking number to me, and it's probably low because so many rapes aren't even reported.

This shows that:
MISOGYNY IS ALIVE AND WELL IN AMERICA IN 2005 AND THE NEXT FUCKER THAT SAYS IT DOESN'T EXIST IS GONNA HAVE A CYBER-HEX PUT ON HIM!

Yeah, how nice of the Catholics to want to force a woman who was brutally raped to carry the bad seed of that man for 9 months. :nuke:

we might have the termerity to believe bearing the children of a rapists isn't a part of "god's plan." of course the catholic church has a duty to protect women from such evil thoughts :eyes:

22. I saw part of the CBS interview with the black woman raped.
When they went to the Diocese for that quote about "...protecting the potential life" it was a woman who looked like she was about 20something. :wtf:

This shows they clearly have given up on the "fetus is more important than the mother" angle and now are completely in lockstep on the "potential for life is more important than the mother."

How can women do this to other women?

and I think their fear makes them very small and mean people.

24. well...i have my opinions
misogynistic religious indocrination...plain and simple. add to that a belief that your religious beliefs are infallible and that it is sinful to doubt or question or change those beliefs...
ta da! rinse, lather and repeat...
at the core of this debate for the true believers (not the bushites) is the belief that women are too stupid or too evil or too immature or too unevolved to make decisions for themselves. it's the "duty" of the church and the state, to help us evil women make the righteous choice.
and of course...women are supposed to suffer forever because of that incident in that garden :D

26. Every jagoff who thinks that a rape victim should not have access
to the morning after pill should be forced to carry the fetus for every woman who becomes pregant!

If it is a man (who obviously can't carry a fetus) he should have a twenty pound load strapped to his abdomen for nine months, and be forced to watch infomercials on an endless loop for the duration of his "pregnancy".
