4. Dictatorship?

Seems to me the fastest way to a legal democratic dictatorship. Forget those legislative people. The ones you vote for to pass legislation and oversee the executive branch. No it's special election time. Where people vote for what the governor tells you is good for you. It's clearly a huge abuse of power by the executive branch. But an abuse perfectly legal in California law.

5. He wants to have judges do redistricting, not the legislature.

There are two other points messing with the teacher's rights too. I am very afraid if he gets his way. No doubt the rigged voting machines will allow him to get his yes votes he wants.

This is very bad for California and the nation at large. These neo-cons keep fudging the system to get their rules in place.

7. Because he's betting the voters will not see the real agenda

California voters have a long history of voting for seemingly good ideas without reading the fine print. Think Prop 13. Even today most critics focus on the cap on residential property taxes and ignore the much bigger problem, namely the way Prop 13 on commercial properties is more out of whack because of the way ownership transfer is defined.

The redistricting rule change to authorizing a panel of retired judges is not a terrible idea. It's the sense of urgency. It would go into effect immediately rather than after the next decennial census. Early polling is neck and neck on this because people aren't paying attention to the second detail. The other two initiatives (teacher tenure, revoked the school funding minimum) are both leading in early polls.


I hope the CA Dems, Greens, and other qualified parties are unanimous in calling this $80 million special election just what it is -- a waste of money. Arnold has three initiatives he claims can't wait another year. Even if all five of the other initiatives qualify for the ballot, that's $10 million per prop. It's nice to know that the state has 80 million that isn't needed for other uses.
