The Electable\Unelectable Schtick.... Or Stink !!! |
|
There seem to be some, among the media and especially here at DU, that thrill to the joy of informing us who is electable, or not.
Now I don't mind at all when I hear a fellow Dem traveler state that although they agree with candidate X's positions a lot, they don't think that that candidate will be palatable to enough voters in a General Election.
I have similar feelings about Dennis Kucinich. Although I align myself more with him in the political spectrum, I'm supporting Dean at this time because I see a combination of political alignment (with me), and a grassroots movement which is inspiring in it's depth and breadth.
So while I'm supporting Dean, I also root for, agree with, and wish the best to Kucininch, and most of the other Dem candidates.
What I object to however, is observing certain posters here HIDE behind the 'Unelectable' fig leaf when criticizing another candidate, instead of having the balls to just come right out and own up to the fact that they do not agree with the policies of said candidate.
They pretend to be quietly reminding us of this unfortunate little truth, when in reality, they really are politically\ideologically opposed to certain candidates and there positions.
Anybody else seen this sneaky little phenomenon???
And no, I'm not gonna name names, LOL!!!

2. Yeah, and what is curious to me |
|
is that they make the pronouncement but NEVER have any support or even what could be called an argument for their claim -- other than dredging up losing candidate from a distant past. But that's neither an cogent argument nor support for their reasoning (well, assuming they had any reasoning, which is by no means clear).

You can gauge the distaste these posters have for certain candidates as you see their posts over and over again.
So why the weak-kneed shield of the unelectability schtick???
Kind of a wussful attack if ya ask me. Which nobody has of course, LOL!

'nobody knows anything' kurt vonnegut
if the 'race' was actually a contest of ideas things might actually change in this country.
folks do not realize the power of word of mouth... and now we even got the web - thank gore! - and the TIME IS RIGHT for change :bounce:
kucinich is a PROVEN representitive of the people and a PROVEN WINNER yet many dismiss him as 'unelectable' as if they can see the future, and WORSE repeating rightwing juvenial slander like 'kook' and worse right here on DU.
it is really sad... because i truly believe that lots folks out there wanna here about somebody with real ideas and issues they can get truly get behind instead of BS political 'stratagies' like who's most 'ellectable'.
but what do i know... i am just part of the 'far left'
great post :toast:
