The next Democratic President should teach Fox News a lesson |
|
Soon as * is shown the door on 1/20/05 the new Democratic President should teach Fox News a lesson they will never forget.
1) Revoke all Fox News reporters' White House press credentials and issue orders to White House Police that Fox News personell are not allowed on the premises.
2) Order all staffers not to speak to Fox News reporters.
3) Refuse all invitations to appear on Fox News programs.
4) Ecourage Democratic members of Congress and other operatives to ignore Fox News as well.
5) Bring back the Fairness Doctrine.

4. Somebody needs to play hardball with the media |
|
I also remember that Toby threatened the heads of the major networks with an anti-trust investigation when they said they would only carry the acceptance speeches at the (D) and (R) conventions. The networks backed down.

5. why would that be a good thing? |
|
in addition to being inheretly undemocratic (if we want to be free to criticize, shouldn't everyone be?), it would give the right something more to bitch about, so it fails on two levels.

6. There's no constitutional right to White House press passes |
|
I would never, ever suggest that Fox be censored. By all means, they should be free to be on the air to say whatever they want, but the First Amendment does not give them the "right" to White House press credentials, exclusive interviews with the President and other top Administration officials or the chance to have coffee and cake with the White House staff.

8. You've GOT to be kidding. |
|
That sounds just awful to me. Everybody should be allowed their point of view. If FOX wants to spew right-wing propaganda, that's fine....let them lose the battle on the field of ideas. But to control them? Sounds like PRAVDA in the old Soviet Union. The government shouldn't be able to tell anyone how to think or what they can say.

10. When they put Helen Thomas in the back of the room..... |
|
....I was furious. She represents my point of view, and I'm an American. How is not letting FOX have a press pass any different than what Ari and Shrub did to her? It made me very angry and absolutely certain that the government didn't give a damn about either me or my views.
I want a government for all the people, not just Democrats and/or Leftists. Other people need to be brought along easily, as most folks aren't tuned in politically. They are more traditional and sometimes backward, but they deserve a strong platform to articulate their views. We just have to be prepared with a focus, a vision and a willingness to hear them out.
I agree with some of what you said, but I think FOX represents a point of view that should be heard. We can then explain why it's not a good way to think. FOX represents a lot of people we really need to reach.

Don't worry. If Fox is taught a lesson as I suggest the Right will still have the House, the Senate, governorships, state legislatures, the military, the pundits and the rest of the corporate media. They'll be just fine.

FOX is going to lose and the Left needs to be a gracious winner. Pettiness and revenge should be out the window, and we should take the higher road. A Democratic win in 2004 will be revenge enough. It will mean that FOX and the Right have lost the arguement for a time.
We shouldn't be sore winners. And we Are going to win.
On edit...I think I'm trying to say...."turn the other cheek". That would be the right thing to do, and forgiveness should be the order of the day. It's time to set an example of how honorable people conduct their affairs.

the new administration let Faux be Faux. But everytime a WH official deals with them just laugh in their face. Everytime a Democrat is on Faux to get skewered just preempt the little cretins by laughing at them.
