Police: Man May Have Molested Thousands

SAN JOSE, Calif. - A convicted child molester jailed in California may have committed sex crimes against thousands of victims, police said Thursday after finding computers, binders and hand-written records complete with children's names and codes for various sex acts.


San Jose Police Lt. Scott Cornfield described 63-year-old Dean Arthur Schwartzmiller as "one of the most active child molesters we've ever seen."

During a search of his bedroom in San Jose, police discovered binders full of child pornography images and numerous logs with meticulous records, listing more than 36,000 children's names — mostly boys — and codes that appear to indicate how he abused them.

Although police say Schwartzmiller appears to have spent much of the past 30 years in California, he has also been arrested on child molestation charges in New York, Idaho, Oregon, California, Arkansas and Washington.

fantasy to me. Now come on... he must have earned a living and slept and eaten and taken the bus and whatnot... all of which takes time. And molesting a child takes time, also. 36.000??? I do not think that's possible. What I DO think is possible is that he FANTASIZED about so many.

Seems kind of unlikely.
Would require approximately two molestations per day every day from the time he was sexually mature.

Obviously this sexual molestation is problem that needs to be dealt with severely but this kind of sensationalistic reporting serves only to fan unreasonable fears and does no one any favors.

5. Yeah, that is a rather steep figure.

Works out to 2-2.5 kids per day, for the past forty three years. Granted, this is a possibility, but not plausible at all. Stalking and luring kids takes time, and meanwhile you've got to work to eat, pay the rent, etc. In addition, most men's sex drive starts dropping off in their forties and fifties.

Still, no matter what the number, this guy should be going to jail for a long long stay. Like the rest of his life.

63 years = 22,995 days

36,000/22,995 = 1.5 newly molested kids a day since he was born.

That said, even one kid is too damn many.

6. silly exaggerations serve no one

If he molested anyone, let them prove it. Claims like this throw doubt on the whole story. Reminds me of all these cops who claim that so-and-so they arrested with "9 marijuana plants having a street value of $10,000" and all that malarkey. Yeah, in their dreams. :eyes:

Prosecute molestors. Don't invent wild stories that make the whole enterprise of protecting child seem ridiculous.
