what do you think the plan is for tenet? |
|
by not firing him immediatley, i think they want one of 2 things from this feeble attempt making tenet the scapegoat.
either;
1)a cry of public outrage calling for his head (this would solidify engraining in the publics head that he was indeed the culprit)--then reacting by firing him (which would hopefully close the door for them on this issue)
or;
2) just leave him in his job, whereas he would be tarnished and could be used to bolster bush's image over time as being clean and above the fray.

1. Iago Rove Waits, then Sacks Tenet |
|
My take: the White House congratulates itself now, loudly and in public, for its broadmindedness. Then Tenet leaves six weeks from now "to spend more time with family." They'll give him an exit strategy by giving him time to get a gig with the Rand Corp. or Janes, or maybe at Georgetown U.
But he's history. Iago Rove won't let him outlive this.

I don't believe people are buying the Tenet blame game. It's going to have to be someone in the White House if Bush won't admit blame, which is where blame belongs. Actually, maybe with President Cheney, but that won't happen.

3. If he were going to resign, he would have done it already |
|
They are going to try to let him twist in the wind and be a lightening rod for a while. Then they will try to get him to resign (usually a Presidential appointee has a pre-signed and undated resignation letter on file, but Tenet's may be addressed to Clinton and W's people are too stupid to get a new one possibly) and if not, fire him.

4. He didn't resign after 9/11 was blamed on intelligence failure. |

At that time, Bush also praised the C.I.A. Figure that out. Anyway, no harm to Tenet. Why should this harm him?

5. Keep Tenet in the spotlight.... |
|
...the longer he's the focus, the better.
As long as ALL of the lies and deceipt are condensed into just one issue (the 'Niger' remark) the better chance Bush has of surviving.
Pretty soon John Doe will be convinced that the 'Niger' problem is the ONLY one hanging over Bush.....when that happens, then deal with Tenet..."Jeez, thanks Rove. That was close".
