You know what I am watching for? |
|
It seems to me that in this nation, there is one voice, one creator of a crystalline moment that comes forth with the words, the statement that define the true state of the union, sans the denial and illusion. The voice that truly and completely creates the much-sought and longed for chimera called "The Tipping Point". The voice that slaps us back to reality.
It's comin'. I can feel it in my bones. That person is coming. That time is coming. As surely as the sun will rise tomorrow.
That one voice, in one speech or article, causes the tectonic shift in opinion in the nation, because that voice will only be pointing out that which everyone already knows but can't seem to admit.
Who do you think will be that worthy voice?
Who will be that man or woman of inestimable courage, the one who will pay an awful price, but the one stops us from cringing in the corners? The one who will say "Arise", and arise we will?

1. You mean like Cronkite turning against Vietnam? |
|
In that vein, if Oprah Winfrey started speaking out against the war and/or voicing skepticism about *'s motives, it could have an effect (especially on women in red states).

4. About the only person I would think would have the power to do that |
|
would be Billy Graham. As much as I don't appreciate him, he gets a lot of respect from both sides...of course it isn't likely...but we can all pray for it to happen

Any moment now.
This isn't magical thinking, either. I have been around long enough now to be able to read the tea leaves. Something is coming. Someone is coming. That thing and person will shake the pillars of heaven.
People are starting to realize that this is the most dangerous president we have ever elected. Republicans have said just that to me. Rock-ribbed Republicans. Never voted Dem in their life.

8. If Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, and Sharon Stone hosted a TV ... |
|
.... special, and invited Valerie Plame, Cindy Sheehan, Sibel Edmonds, and others to speak truth to Bush and the neoconsters' lies, the earth would shake. They might even do a "Truth Tour, America", as suggested here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3632200#3640773http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4173.htm WE THE PEOPLE .... WILL NEVER FORGET "... we sent our young people into harm's way without leveling with the American people." - Congresswoman Pelosi before Congress, 16 June 2005 Peace. www.missionnotaccomplished.us - Impeachment of Bush and Cheney; indictment and prosecution of all members of the Bush regime who participated in the deception, should be campaign promises of any candidate worthy of our vote in the 2006 Congressional elections.

10. I think someone watching Sen. Jones might be tempted to come forward. |
|
Mr. "Freedom Fries" has taken a big risk in speaking out against the war in Iraq. I think someone out there might watch him, weigh the consequences, and come forward with a tale of their own to tell.
It won't be Colin Powell. He's a sellout, a loser. That goes double for McCain.
Billy Graham would be great. God's voice on Earth, telling the people the war is wrong, and bush misled us. That would be so rich.
Oprah could make a difference, she sure could. Let's see if she is or isn't above her raisin', as they say in the South. It is, after all, many brothers of color who are dying in the sands of Iraq because of bush and his lies, lies, lies.

13. Yeah, but on the color thing... |
|
You are not seeing the disproportionate numbers of people of color getting killed like you did in The Nam. I suspect that will change if they make the big leap and reinstitute the draft.
I do believe the will have to. In 2007.

11. I can relate to the feeling but you know what |
|
everything that is turning the right way is because common slugs like us are keeping alive that which they are trying to kill. The main reason, for example, that I believe Conyers is acting is because of our vocal and vigorous support.
I don't think we can afford to wait much longer. If someone emerges from the din and does what you desire, I will be delighted. In the absence of that, my sorry ass will be marching and protesting with my last breath.

12. same feeling in these bones |
|
...almost as if you're describing some "harmonic convergence of cognitive dissonance" ... can't remember origin of this phrase: "everything that rises must converge": ... but inverting that thought, we have what i think you're intuiting so well here: "everything converging must finally rise" (or something like that??) LOL (tired brain here)
as to who? i don't know; it's hard to imagine, isn't it? but i think there's an important clue in your phrase "...man or woman of inestimable courage, the one who will pay an awful price..."
thanks for a timely question eloquently posed :hi:
