Simple question: Do you love this country? |
|
I get choked up at the playing of the National Anthem. If given a real threat to this land I would be first to join it's defense.
I want clean air for our nation, clean water to drink, a good eduction for everyone, security in ones old age, health care for everyone one of us.
In short, the idea of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, is something that I hold near and dear to my heart.
I will stand up to people that say protesting is unAmerican. Dissenting voices are what founded this great nation. The day we stop questioning and stop asking for the truth, is the day this nation dies.
The republicans have tried so hard to turn the word Liberal into the new four letter word. Liberalism is what founded this country.
So do I love this country? Damn straight I do.
I just had to get this off my chest. I just so tired of hearing that just because I'm a Liberal Democrat, that I don't love this nation.

Its hard for me to love land. There are good things about this country and bad things. These days its alot more bad then good. Half the people are complete drones. What does that say about our country?

3. Of course I do and I think everyone who posts here does, too. |
|
We love our country and don't want some asshole idiot to ruin it like he is doing. Why else are we so intent on getting his butt out of office if not for the love of our country and our fellow man?

15. I am doing it for myself |
|
And my family and friends.
I could give a whit about the rest of the degraded species. I certainly am not doing it for "love of country". :puke:

I still get choked up during the anthem. I think of all the greatness that we've accomplished. Images of pivotal moments in our history: Washington boating across the Delaware... D-Day... the great agrarian root of our society... this is what made America great. After the Civil War, however, it seems we've done nothing but go downhill. I love what the flag stands for: freedom in a strong and upright republic. It seems as though we've been slaves to either business or government at every point since the Civil War, though.

There are more things wrong with this country than the government.

8. I think of it in terms of parents/children vs. citizen/country. |
|
People who love their children don't blindly trust their children to always be infallible. Good parents are involved in making sure their children do the right things & hold them accountable when they make mistakes. This is OUR country and as responsible citizens we have to make sure our country is on the right path. A bad parent lets their kids go out all night & doesn't care if they report back to them or not. Just like bush supporters w/ the gov't.

I love the bioregion I live in and all the people in it, even the knuckleheads.
I can't say the same for any level of government above the state level, however. And the more I've learn about history, the less I've cared for the federal government. So it's not 'just Bush' -- he's just been more arrogant about his actions than past administrations (and far less competent as an Emperor).

I don't love any country.
I love some people, dislike others. But the idea of loving an abstract political entity is absurd, and I cannot relate to anyone who gets choked up over symbols and bad songs.
