PBS show about the Shroud of Turin
The name of the show is "Secrets of the Dead."

I can let everyone in on the Shroud's "secret" though: It's a fake!!!

Showing crap like this really is beneath PBS.

4. The Catholic Church has NEVER recognized it as a genuine relic
even they know it's a fake.

5. Did you watch the show? They debunked it fully.
True believers liked to point out how "impossible" it would be to get the image on the cloth without divine intervention. They had a scientist who explained how it was easily done.

It's a good PBS show, not crap at all.

6. A second face on the Turin Shroud ...
...suggest to many that the relic is not what it has been claimed to be for that past several hundred years.

<snip>
Wrapped in the shroud
By Steve Tomkins

The discovery of a second face on the Turin Shroud has again divided opinion. Does this mean it is real after all? Or does it mean it's an even better hoax than was previously thought? Some people, and not just the faithful, never stopped believing in the first place.
Easter could not have been better timed this year for publicity purposes.

First, it coincided conveniently with The Passion of the Christ which attracted audiences several million times bigger than the original crucifixion. And now the Turin shroud - the supposed burial cloth of Jesus, ever-wrapped in controversy - has been showing its contentious face again.

A textiles expert working on the restoration of that countenance divine has claimed that the cloth is from the 1st Century.

10. I never understood how people could think it was real. Jesus Christ
just happens to look like every Middle Ages representation of him?

AS the Church Lady used to say " How convenient!"

11. It's opposite
Jesus looked all kinds of ways in artwork until the shroud was discovered. Then the shroud's face became the standard Jesus face for artists everywhere.

13. Oh, that explains a lot. I always wondered how he came to be depicted
in art. I don't think there is a real description in the Bible. Thanks for the info !

14. This is a common fallacy.
The face selected for depictions of Jesus comes from ancient Greek sources - namely Zeus and Heracles. Check out the work of John Romer and others on this. Most trace the features used in later art specifically to the statue of Zeus at Olympia. This is the same well that those responsible for the Turin forgery drew their imagery from, no doubt.
