12. Reuters: Bush Qaeda mastermind must stay in secret custody
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Monday defended the U.S. treatment of detainees and said the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks should stay in secret custody because he could provide valuable information to help protect Americans and Europeans.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, regarded by U.S. officials as the brains behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, has been held at an undisclosed location since he was captured in Pakistan in March 2003.

"And he is being detained because we think he could possibly give us information that might not only protect us, but protect citizens in Europe," Bush said at a press conference after meeting with European Union leaders.

18. Secret?
Why does he need a magic place to hide him in? What rational is there for a secret place other than
a) they don't really have him
b) they don't have any evidence and don't want to try him in a real court of law.
c) They are insane and have no clue what they are doing

Only mushrooms grow in the dark...

13. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed
The 9/11 commission names him as the mastermind of 9/11, and I think they may be right about that (there is of course a lot more to that story). He has supposedly been in custody, at an undisclosed location, since his arrest by Pakistani police in March 2003.

Curiously, Pakistani police had initially reported that they killed him in September 2002.

He is Pakistani-Kuweiti.

25. Set me straight, please
For him to say the mastermind of 9/11 is in custody blows a big hole through his lie/theory that we had to invade Iraq. How can he say we invaded Iraq to get the terrorists one day, and use this arrest a few days later? I don't get it. Am I missing something?

40. Reading the 9/11 Commission report,
I get the feeling that Bin Laden is "inserted" in the story, or given more significance than he really had. He didn't plan it, he didn't organize it, he didn't finance it. I guess his job is to be the Face of Evil Incarnate.

19. He's likely talking about...
... Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, who was supposedly captured in March, 2003 and handed over to US authorities in Rawalpindi. Other reports, the day after his purported capture say Mohammed had escaped and was hiding in Pakistan, though his family was detained in the raid to get him. Other reports say he died in the latter part of October, 2002, in a police raid to capture him in Pakistan.

Who knows?

42. Hey all....
don't worry....Powell will clear up the confusion when he shows us the evidence. He promised.

....and to answer another's question...why does he need to be held at a secret location?? Because he has vital information that might help keep America and Briton safe and if he wasn't kept in an undisclosed location he might just be sharing that information with Red Cross, Amnesty International, Lawyers and others. How unsafe is that? See?

either that or he's dead.....
