Does Bush have anything to run on? |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 05:27 PM by Mass_Liberal
Every time I think about it, I am amazed. When I saw troops marching into bagdahd I thought, thats it. If the election was right now, Bush would win in a landslide. But since soldiers have been getting killed at a rate of 2 or more per day, I think that Bush bringing up the war will actually get a negative response. Since he has botched every single thing he has done in his term, what exactly can he say he's done right? Won't any democratic candidate be able to crush him simply by saying "your tax cuts failed to bring a economic upswing, postwar Iraq is a complete mess with no clear and bloodless way out. 40 million people still don't have health care. Unemployment is still around 6%. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE THAT ISN'T DETRIMENTAL TO THIS COUNTRY?"
I used to hope Bush would lose. Now I think he will.

Complete with the "Mission Accomplished" banner. Somehow I don't think we will be seeing much of that footage any more (unless the Democrats use it). That phony event was going to be the repukes ace in the hole.....so, no, he has nothing to run on.

3. Yep. Lots, to the brain of a reich winger: |
|
1 - Bush is still not Clinton.
2 - Bush is still not Gore.
3 - Bush is a leader, who has led.
4 - Bush didn't get a blowjob.
5 - Thank God Bush isn't Hillary!
6 - Did I mention that Bush isn't Clinton? Or Gore?
7 - Bush fixed the Clinton economy, which was in shambles.
8 - Bush isn't some smarty pants trying to figure everything out himself (like those Clinton and Gore bastards)
9 - Bush has united the country, not divided it.
10 - God chose Bush to be president.

4. "We are safe from more 9/11s.... |
|
because of actions WE took just after that terrible day... The Democrats would OVERTURN what we have accomplished, etc etc"
The problems for them are -- 1) If another 9/11 happens, how do they explain it, and 2) such a strategy might only appeal to those who would vote repuke anyway.

that is for sure. But the bushies could use it as an excuse to impose marshal law; that is what worries most of us here.

Yes. $200,000,000 in campaign funds |
|
And a media that he and his minions own who will report it is daylight at midnight and that the sky is white and not blue, and that up is down, etc.
He obviously can't run on his record. It's abysmal.

12. All of it laundered US Treasury money: |
|
Bush will run a federally funded campaign. Here's how:
1 - Bush takes office, and loots the treasury, handing it to his rich corporate buddies.
2 - Rich corporate buddies return the cash to Bush, in the form of record campaign donations.
A simple two-step process!

DEAN/CLARK/KERRY/GEPHARDT/EDWARDS WILL ONLY RAISE TAXES, CREATING A DEPRESSION AND WILL HELP TERRORISTS PUT A BOMB IN YOUR GAS-WHORE SUV WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR KIDS TO FOOTBALL PRACTICE"

America is a nation of terrified ignorants. Pandering to fear is always effective.
"A vote for anyone but me is a vote for terror like september 11."
He could revisit the common rethug strategy of fanning fears of crime and running on a 'law and order' (read: prisons and patriot acts) platform.
If nothing else, he can fall back on the traditional voodoo economics/class warfare argument. Historically, conning the trailer-park white trash into believing that they're poor because there are too many 'welfare paracites' has been a very effective way of bringing them out to vote.

17. Bogus economic numbers will be foisted on the public |
|
I predict media whores will buy into trumped up economic indicators and take some sting out of the "its the economy, stupid" argument.
Look for a big stock market run up prior to next November, just like what happened before the last midterms.
I hope I'm wrong, or that at least people see through it.
