Christians - I want your opinion: If Bush prayed about taking the USA to |
|
war, did
1. God tell him to go to war even if there were no WMD, etc.
2. Bush wasn't listening to God's answer.
I have always been taught that prayer is a two-way street. We talk, God listens. Then God talks, we listen.
On this premise, it seems that Bush didn't follow thru and listen. There is a lot more to prayer than saying "This is what I'm going to do God, and I hope you like it."
Lots of people do this - including me - and then say they "prayed" about something.
I have always had trouble with Bush saying he prayed about going to war. He indicates that God told him to go to war. I don't believe it.
I frankly think a person would be better off not praying if they are not going to listen to God's advise. Then they would not fool themselves - or others - about "they are doing God's will."

1. I find most prayer to be a form of self-justification |

3. Bonesmen worship a different god |

Skull & Bones is a death cult. I have never been convinced of Bush's religiosity. Even if he is "sincere," he is "sincerely wrong" about what it means to be a follower of Christ, at least the Christ depicted in the four Gospels.

that he isn't of the Christian religion. Plus he's a hypocrite. When he was asked back in his first run about his "faith" he was very quick and quiet about it. A real Christian is excited and likes to tell of their beliefs and their new way of life. Bush tried to shy it away.

4. Honestly, I don't even think he prayed about it. But I see your point |
|
If he did pray about it, then he is either praying to the wrong people or he just wasn't listening.

6. One of those voices in his head said "Go ahead" |
|
It is the same voice that tells him is a great looking, strong leader that is destined to be rememberred for his glory for thousands of years.

7. I don't think I believe in prayer as a two way street anymore. |
|
I think that's what scripture is for, mostly. We pray to God for our sake. The answers have already been given.
I think if Bush understood jack squat about Christianity, he wouldn't have gone to war. He didn't listen to scripture or the core message of Christianity.

you have to understand that God doesn't always answer right away if at all. Sometimes we're not ready for our prayers to be answered or there's another way for it to be answered and not how we wanted.

12. he doesn't really pray, he fakes it for the tv. |
|
He doesn't know how and does not care to learn. He is a sociopath who has no need to hear from anyone let alone God.

He might say it, but that Christian thing is all part of the fraud. And, the wingnuts fell for it. He hasn't done one Christian thing in his entire adult life. He wasn't "saved". He wasn't born again. It is all a lie to get an idiot puppet elected to major office. The Professor

16. Fundamentalist Christians should not be in leadership positions. |
|
At least that is my opinion. It is kinda spooky when someone has the power to press the red button and talks to an imaginary friend. Not so long ago, people used to get institutionalized for hearing voices.

17. you summed it up beautifully! |
|
"There is a lot more to prayer than saying "This is what I'm going to do God, and I hope you like it.""
I am going to steal this quote and share it with a Unitarian minister I know!
What you said about listening -- there's a wonderful example in Terry Pratchett's book "Small Gods", about a fanatically-devout man whose mind is compared to a hollow sphere, brilliantly polished on the inside. Nothing can get inside the sphere -- what the man believes is the voice of God is actually his OWN desires, bouncing back and forth within.
