Bush calls for end to partisan fight on Social Security
Speaking at a nuclear power plant to promote his energy plan, the president spent the last part of his speech talking about Social Security. The remarks came a day after a Republican senator said he would propose a plan that wouldn't include the centerpiece of Bush's vision -- voluntary private accounts.

"The reason I brought it up is I cannot travel our country, looking at young workers who are paying payroll taxes into a system that I know is going broke," Bush said. "And so now is the time to come together, both Republicans and Democrats, forget all that party business, and come together and solve this problem permanently, forever."

((My question is can he travel the country & look at the CEOs making millions while they are raidng the employees retirement benefits and letting them go bust while collectiong their millions?))

2. What he means is...
"Republicans and Democrats should put their BRAINs aside and do it my way."

Of course there have been many times that I've rather thought most politicians already have put aside their brains (some I'm fairly convinced have it stuck somewhere up a dark body orifice like Senselessbrenner, Delay, etc).

8. I think what he means is "I'll pretend we're not going to privatize Social
Security, and then when we finally agree to a plan I'll tack it on right at the end once the Democrats can't back out."

10. Absolutely!!
YOu are 100% correct. The headline and talking points of all Democrats should be 'Bush Suffers Embarrassing and Devasting Defeat On SS Plan'!

12. A system that's going broke?
Social Security will take in $145 billion more in payroll taxes than it pays out in benefits this year! Why would it be going broke, unless there's some jiggery-pokery going on with the federal budget?

Who's in charge of the federal budget, anyways? If Social Security is going broke, it must be because the folks in charge are looting it! Impe-e-e-e-e-e-each!

13. It is only going broke if Bush & pals plan to spend so much
that they don't see a way to repay the U.S. Treasury bonds making up those I.O.U.s he made fun of recently.

If the bonds are redeemed as they should be, we're good for another 36 years at a minimum.

This is what scares me. I don't think they plan to pay back the money they've looted.

Take back your tax cuts for the millionaires and SS will be just fine. You might think about paying back the money you took out of SS. Pay your IOUs you bastard!
