Left-wing radio is starting to kick some elephant... |
|
Can't you feel the change? My brother is playing it around his coworkers who used to make him listen to Limbaugh. It's reaching more and more areas of the country. I really think people are starting to get coordinated over the Internet / blogs / radio / fund raising, etc.
I think shows like Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, all of them really are helping form a coalition of people. Anyone share my optimism?

A Stephanie or a hardon?
As I think about it, I don't recall ever having had a Stephanie.

Every fiber of my being wants to share your optimism. On some level, I'm getting there, but there is a part of me that still remains that tired old cynic. Bush and his minions have dealt me an almost-fatal blow, spiritually and emotionally. Trying hard to keep the faith. Glad you are hopeful--makes me hopeful, too, somewhere in the depths of my soul!

people who make up their own minds, normally gravitate towards the truth.
People who have been brainwashed once, rarely, if ever, fall victim to the same scam twice.
Every mind that is awakened, will never again sleep.

I am wondering myself.
Seems to me that NPR is turning right. Also, I'm worried about the fact that shows such as Crossfire and others have been taken off the air.
Also, Getting AAR is iffy for me. But, seems there are many more extremely right winged radio shows on AM now. I don't know if this is my imagination.

AAR. It took me a little while to head that direction, but NPR, as you said, was starting to drift a little too far to starboard.

Now you can go from one part of the country to the next and converse about liberal issues in a more informed way. You figure out your friend's favorite show, talk about Al Franken. It's the same everywhere. Kind of cool.

What we really need is to get it available on more stations. I live in Buffalo NY and I have to stream it.
I work as an Auto Cad Engineer for a millwork company in the suburbs, I have noticed that my shop guys are receptive but have no way to listen. This is a fertile ground that is only getting second hand info from me. I wonder how many others there are just like them?
I started on the floor so I am more "one of them" than "office". I understand these guys and I know they will not get XM because they know Howard Stern is going to "the other" satellite Radio Company and they are too tired after a long day "in a very hot shop" to want to be bothered trying to stream internet radio over a crappy dial-up connection.
Radio is the answer. Trust me, it is working, we need more stations.

I firmly believe in the huge importance of answering the lies - alot of people in this country don't really have time, or don't make the time, to investigate, they just hear things and, unfortunately more times than not, believe it. That's why it's so important to speak up and give an opposing voice to this crap! And these same people who don't investigate and research, they can certainly THINK and they can weigh it out, maybe it inspires them to look deeper. I can speak from experience because I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE! I used to laugh crazy accusation and lies off, wave my hand at the radio and think, 'no one's gonna believe that', but, astounding as it was for me to get my head around, THEY DO BELIEVE
Everywhere I can speak up and say the truth or counter a lie, I do. And I've encouraged my husband to do it at work. He no longer rolls his eyes at the Republican Natzi's (as he calls them), he realises there are young ears, uninformed ears, on the fence and fed up ears.
Lies ALWAYS NEED TO BE COUNTERED WITH TRUTH, ALWAYS AND AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY (doesn't have to be pounded to be countered - it can be done with charm and humor)!

|
(wattage) Washington DC, Chicago, etc... and they add more and more affiliates (not to mention liberal radio on the Internet and Satellite radio)...
It is becoming a major force as the 2006 election comes upon us.
Support liberal radio.

26. I agree with a few reservations. |

AAR and other "left leaning" or just "truth" radio stations/networks need to grow and become as slick as the other guys have become.
They have about a 20 year head start, so catching up is going to be difficult. But we have not only truth on our side, but brains as well.
If we can cut that lead to just a couple of years, we may have a shot at taking or government back by 2008.
On the down side, we also are more diverse and with that, tend to "eat our own." They've got a monolithic "Stepford Wife" propaganda machine where we tend to bicker about where to cross t's and dot i's.
And I'm just talking about radio. We really need television. Even a small cable presence to start.
I'm hopeful, but it's still going to be uphill.

..make them sound kind of stale and grouchy if you ask me. THey're getting more and more defensive, aren't they? You're right, it's going to be uphill, but maybe we've learned a few lessons. I hope so.

But seriously, the point was that they've built a many tenticled infrastructure largely with the help of deregulation. They've had time to make mistakes and learn from them.
I remember hearing Limpballs in the '80's on some weekend radio fill-in thing. I thought at the time he was an idiot and would die on the vine. Boy, was I wrong.
They've built and built, if one guy doesn't work out another one might. Put enough of them on the air, the message starts to become what people believe. Little by little, they've gotten to the point that, until a year ago, you could drive across the US and hear nothing on AM radio but them, sports, oldies, and religious programs.
