Is spending time on DU like people in a mental hospital ....
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 07:09 PM by Botany
......telling each other that the Doc is nutz?

Look I live in Ohio and saw and heard election fraud 1st hand.
I think he stole 2 elections and * is a tool. I think the media is
owned by rich interests that "they" want to keep the truth from coming
out. I think Iraq might be the biggest mistake in US
history. But are we feeding our own mental problems by blogging at DU?

BTW .... have fun in your answers

30. Yeah, and much cheaper than
seeing a therapist.

DU is a sanctuary and an oasis for this somnolent, corporate press infested nation.

And we get things DONE! :patriot:

Orderlies who don't get to use medications on our patients.

and the sane are the ones being incarcerated.

7. Its really not that funny.
Ha.

I've said before that the DU demographic are largely the walking-wounded, psychologically speaking.

We have all absorbed way too much propaganda, self-delusion, and conditioning in recent decades and there is little impetus to examine it and move to something positive. People here are good at latching onto (sometimes superficial) wrongs that others don't notice, and they piss and moan and develop a strong urge to punish in some way... becoming obsessed with a meaningless figurehead.

But they are programmed to avoid anything that can strike at the root of the problem. So it becomes cliques and coalitions of anti-this and anti-that. Or pleas for George Soros to be their sugardaddy-solution to the conglomerate media.

Ugh.

25. Well said..
Ive been a lurker for awhile, decided to start participating recently.

I'm in no way trying to put DU down, it can be very cathartic. But I also think it can be very enabling in an unhealthy way that allows us to sink into a cycle of magnifying meaningless things and ignoring action on that which is important.

Yet, here I sit at 2am, clicking meaninglessly.

10. To me, DU has become a train
wreck. I can't seem to stay away for very long. On the one hand I look forward to any progress we have made but at the same time I am always surprised by the shit this administration flings at us.

Since I get most of news here, I feel if I don't sign on and find out what is really happening I feel disconnected.

There is nights when it's 3 am and I am still on here and I wonder why I can't just shut it off and go to sleep

...like a club of people that help each other obssess over a slowly-unfolding train wreck.

We're like Wall St.-worshippers that stay on Motleyfool.com, or techies that keep their eyes glued to Slashdot.org.

12. "Let us consider that we are all
partially insane. It will explain us to each other; it will unriddle many riddles; it will make clear and simple many things which are involved in haunting and harassing difficulties and obscurities now. Those of us who are not in the asylum, and not demonstrably due there, are nevertheless, no doubt, insane in one or two particulars. I think we must admit this; but I think that we are otherwise healthy-minded."

15. Maybe, but I find comfort in it.
The people I live with think I am insane to care about our country. My 19-year-old son tells me there's nothing I can do about it so I should just ignore it. My husband doesn't want to hear about "that shit." My youngest son was very interested in the political process before the election, but now at the ripe old age of 15 (his birthday was in January), not only is he completely jaded, he has reached the age at which he is the holder of all wisdom and knowledge and his parents epitomize stupidity.

My office mate is only interested in things that she sees directly affecting her family, her kids' schools, and the local Girl Scout Council. She admires Laura Bush and thinks Dick Cheney looks like a nice grandfatherly guy. She has noticed * is an idiot. Okay, I pointed it out to her. I am not sure she would have figured out for herself that Saddam didn't orchestrate 9-11.

DU gives me faith that there are other people who are paying attention and give a damn.

32. There's an old movie called "Are You Committed?",
or something like that. Guy goes for an interview at a private sanitarium.
Has an unusual interview, is asked, "Are you committed?".

Can't remember all the details, but the parts I do remember is that
the mentally insane had done away with the staff and were running the
place.

Once the guy figured that out, the rest of the movie was devoted to
finding a way to get the hell out of there.

I figure DU is the guy who finds himself stuck in the mental hospital(the US),
trying to find a way to get out or to set things right. :)
