I've been away, how did DU respond to China's bid to buy US Oil Co.? |
|
It was a fairly big story in Shanghai. The Chinese around my tour seemed nervous that the purchase would be seen as a grab part of America's strategic resources.
If we went to war for oil in Iraq, how will the US deal with China's bid to take over Unocal (sp?).

2. Hmm, another example of a story not told to the US? |
|
It was reported on CNN international on Thursday and Friday.
Apparently the Chinese put in a bid that was way above the current share price.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-0506240223jun24,1,5965773.story?coll=chi-business-hedWASHINGTON -- China's bid to buy such marquee American companies as Unocal Corp. and Maytag Corp. prompted a strong political reaction Thursday in Congress, with some lawmakers calling on the Bush administration to take a tougher stance against Beijing's trade policies and investigate its effort to take over a major U.S. oil company. <snip>

somewhat ridiculed for mispelling a word. No one seemed to take it seriously. After all the changing of governments, and murders aetc we have gone through to get that pipeline in for UNOCAL in Afghanistan it sure is ioronic that China could buy the company and its reserves. And they'd be buying it with money that we gave them when we go to Wally world to buy crap made in China. And Bushco will do nothing because were up to our eyeballs in hock to China. Gee, the house of cards is falling down.

looking at this to make sure it isn't "national security" interests. I am sure that somehow it will be made to be a security problem because we want all the oil. However, the Chinese seem to b e on the verge of buying Maytag.
