Congressman John Conyers, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and Congresswoman Barbara Lee are asking their colleagues in the House of Representatives to join them on the evening of June 28 to discuss the Downing Street Minutes on the floor of the House.

They need our help. Please contact your Congress Member right away and ask them to contact the Judiciary Committee staff and commit to taking part.

Below is a letter that has been circulated to Congress members:

On June 28, 2005 for an Hour of Special Order on the Downing Street Minutes

Dear Democratic Colleague:

Please join the 'Out of Iraq' Caucus this Tuesday, June 28th for a Special Order hour on the Downing Street Minutes. The Democratic hour for these remarks is scheduled for the second hour of the Special Orders, which will commence immediately after votes for the day have ended

Over the past month, 128 Members of Congress, along with some 560,000 citizens have sent letters to the President demanding a response to reports of a pre-war deal between Great Britain and the United States and to evidence that pre-war intelligence was intentionally manipulated. All of these letters have gone unanswered.

Given the importance of these matters, we believe it is incumbent upon Congress to discuss these issues in a public and forthright manner. We hope you will join us in this hour of Special Orders.

If it's 7 or 8:00 p.m. eastern time it may not conflict. C-span has a way of showing special events in the House and Senate again or even a couple of times, maybe enough people will see it to cause some media type comment. Every little bit helps.

I sent this little message out to television's major media players:

Hey there gang!

Just a heads-up to let you know the way the wind is blowing these days. A very large number of American citizens are no longer buying the useless garbage you’re peddling as ‘news’, and, unfortunately for you, the citizens of which I speak span the mid-range of your advertiser’s most coveted marketing age brackets.

No need to thank me for this warning, I just thought you might like to know that the public you claim to be serving is not as stupid as you apparently think they are, and are already beginning to switch off your station in droves. The longer you persist in refusing to investigate or rejecting altogether important stories like the ‘Downing Street’ minutes, while presenting verbatim the drivel the White House lays out for you as ‘news’, increasing numbers of 18-50 year-old viewers will start looking elsewhere for the information they used to count on your station to provide. When the bottom finally falls out, you will have no one to blame but yourselves.

I’m hoping your bean-counters have alerted you to the possibility I have described above, but if they haven’t, consider this fair warning from a former loyal viewer.
