This is just disgusting..................
The Discovery Channel had their final vote on the greatest American. With a panel of Dennis Miller, Anne Coulter, and the ever political Randy Jackson (American Idol). And after a national vote Ronald Reagan was named the greatest American. Now that is not even the worst part, Chimpy and Oprah were in the top 10. Chimp was ahead of Bill Clinton by one spot.

3. A lot of people only think of the now
Sometimes it seems like they forget even the most recent past which almost never bodes well for progressives.

9. the problem with progressives/liberals winning is despite having
given the American people Social Security, Medicare, Clean Water, Federal Reserve System, New Deal Reforms, Great Society Reforms, Civil Rights legislation during the 60's, 40-hour work week, direct elections of US Senators, Womans Suffrage, a balanced budget and 20 million new jobs under Clinton--the American people ask, "What have you done for me, lately?"

control of the purse strings.

I hope they don't bias-ize Nova, too.

18. Most Cable Channels are like this
in that the programs they now air are often not even close to the title of the channel. It's all poker, motorcycle shops, and war movies right now.

Dont you think that it would be more realistic if they showed blood on the stations that carried military history shows?

I gave up on this when I found out about how the voting would work and saw how determined the Freepers were to make this travesty a reality.

8. My question is, how does the Gipper beat Chimpy?
We know that the survey is slanted, with a conservative binge that can only go to two conservative candidates.

But how does Reagan beat the sitting war president?

Bush is twice the conservative Reagan was. Reagan didn't take his tax cuts to the limit like Bush. Reagan didn't appoint a supreme court to take us back to the 1880s. Reagan wasn't a war president.

But nobody respects Bush. Could it be, errr, the war?

12. According to this horseflop, * and Oprah are greater than Einstein & FDR.
And Shrub couldn't even carry JFK's jockstrap -- he was a man who faced down a *real* threat of "nook-u-lar" war, and who actually served his country in wartime.

This bogus poll has, pardon my French, jack shit to do with REAL history. :grr:

22. GAG
Let's see... Reagen (who fucked us up with Iran-contra, debt and deficit economics, blah blah everything wrong) "won" against:

Washington - Father of America, voice of reason, held clashing sides together for the American cause, just amazing guy
Lincoln - held us together during Civil War, offered compassion toward battered South with 10% Plan, great debater
MLK - True Christian leader who brought us all together; without his compassion and courage our country would still be racially F'ed up (even more than it still is now)
Franklin - Father of American innovation and spirit, great humor and intellect

And fucker reagen "won" - assholes

23. The missus told me about it this afternoon...
...just before her head exploded. Shit.

I deliberately avoided this whole "Greatest American" thing, because I knew (1) that the criteria would never be right for what exactly constitutes "greatness", and (2) no matter WHO won, I was going to be disappointed.

I mean, seriously... shouldn't the "greatest" American have actually DONE something worthy of the phrase? Say, faced a national crisis, fought an injustice, or discovered or invented SOMETHING? At very lest, the Framers of the Constitution should have fared better in this contest (how DOES one invent a country from scratch and keep it running for 200+ years?).

But REAGAN...? It's a mystery. How the deuce can someone who's probably foggy on what he had for f*cking breakfast manage to shut down the Soviet F*cking Union with one hand tied behind his back? (Alright, I'll let our Freeper friends answer that one.)

Jumping Jeebus on a pogo stick, I just don't get it.
