5. And I'll bet you're a NARC! |
|
No, seriously, I was an active SDS member and see no need to hide the fact. I was at the U of Iowa mostly during my membership.

2. I even have an SDS button I wore. "Vote In the Streets!" |
|
In '68. Wore it proudly on my USMC shirt with the peace sign I painted on the back.

4. Speaking of "The Weathermen" |
|
I watched "The Weather Underground," yesterday, and it made me feel really fucking oppressed by a bureaucratic, authoritarian government. A man, toward the end, said something about the only violence that is permitted, is that which is sanctioned by a state.
That's kind of fucked up, when you think about it.
Anyway, I'm not trying to say that all SDSers were Weathermen -- before anyone gets bent out of shape, about that.

8. I know what you're saying |

and that's how we felt then about the state. Weathermen came in at a later stage than when I was active.

7. I was a very short-lived member |
|
When they had some sort of resolution saying that free speech is bunk, we parted ways. I was active in the anti-war movement, and they were talking about irrelevent crap by the time I joined. It faded away shortly thereafter.

10. Where on earth was this? |
|
That was a strength and a weakness of SDS that there was no real top down ideology. Our own group had various views and never got totalitarian.
