They don't want people to watch the speech |
|
Do you really think the networks are choosing to ignore boy George?
If you do, remember this:
He had given the fewest press conferences of any president (and I use the term extremely loosely in reference to **).
He pledged to hold a conference every month recently. Last month, he barely made the deadline and held the conference on the last day of the month. This month, the timing's almost the same but with a twist--lo and behold--this month, most networks won't air the speech.
The truth is, he doesn't want that much coverage. BushCo knows only thing new will be the "backdrop" of surviving soldiers.
The truth is, this is only being done as a way of pushing **'s record so he won't be remembered as having the fewest speeches. He really doesn't want to say much at all only go on record as having spoken--very much like the way he wanted credit for military service even though he didn't fully meet his obligation. He got the honorble discharge then, and the "press" will allow him to skate by without airing the embarassment that is him tonight.

I think they think they're better off if few people see it, but millions hear the right-wing pundits' view of it -- i.e., another oratorical masterpiece, move over Winston Churchill.

...of hiding from the press and avoiding public scrutiny. The media probably downplays the speeches so they don't have to look stupid for not challenging him on all of his BS.

8. Not only do they downplay it to avoid looking stupid, his poll numbers |
|
are in the toilet. They know that it's not going to do much good to put him out there without a message right now. People might actually begin to see that he has nothing to offer. <Gasp>

12. I think maybe hiding BEHIND the press is closer. |
|
Particularly Faux. The talking head's assessments of his speeches always put the rosiest possible face on whatever bumbling, stammering, smirking collection of strung together syllables he's capable of uttering on any given day.
Oh, and Welcome to DU! :toast:

13. Yep, they can talk him up so he doesn't have to. |
|
Tomorrow it'll be all "Bush said this" and "Bush plans to do that"... As though what they are saying is news.

for the eternally campaigning candidate.
They would have literally crucified Clinton had he pulled this crap all the time.

10. He is TOO PAINFUL to watch ... |
|
... I am 43 and have been watching presidential speeches since Carter (I was an odd kid), I despised Reagan but could/would watch him. I cannot not watch * ... I actually feel too embarrassed for my country when he attempts the "speeches."
