CNN's Inside Politics discussing Bush's credibility gap. A majority |
|
of Americans believe Bush mislead the American people about the Iraq War (52%).
They said this may be because of the ..... Downing Street Memo (that is what they called it).
Credibility gap? Hell, yes!

2. It isn't "because of the DSM" -- that was only the straw that broke the... |
|
...camel's back.
We should be careful of this framing ("Because of the DSM") -- because that's putting all eggs in one basket, and then they have a singular target for their propaganda. And it's also simply not true. If that memo came out in the Summer of 2003, nothing like this would have happened.

7. It was talking heads trying to figure out why the number has gone |
|
up to over a majority.
We know people don't like the Iraq War but that isn't the same thing as saying they believe they were lied to to get into the War.
People can believe it is incompetence. It takes a special leap to go to being purposely MISLEAD.

but that leap is not solely due to DSM -- it's due to the fact that BushCo has lied their way about pretty much any issue they touch for years, and people are finally catching on to what kind of an aesthetics these guys subscribe to.

That may have been the straw that broke the camels back (don't you just love old worn out cliche's:) ) , but if that is what changed the perception for the last few percent, then that is an accurate statement.
Its not always the truth that counts, but what makes them see the truth that gets the headline
