CNN is now Hurricane TV!
I confess. I watch CNN for a couple of hours today and all it was was WALL to WALL coverage of Hurricane Dennis. Hardly a word on updates of the London bombing or even about the missing girl in Aruba. The CNN execs must wet themselves this time of year. :eyes:

1. I'm getting out plastic
and tape as I type. Although I live in the northeast, just watching CNN makes me realize how much at risk we all are to die within the next 15 minutes.

13. I guess for folks who don't live in FL
it is boring. But folks who live down here are glued to it because of what happened to us last year. The Panhandle got hit very hard by Ivan last year and they are catching it again. Some of those folks are still in temporary housing! Now they are living through another nightmare.

I've read that 550,000 are left without electricity and some may not have it back for 3 weeks or more. Try to imagine living in your house with no electricity. It is serious, down here. Dennis mostly missed my area but while it was blowing through we were glued to the TV and got angry when they started back to regular programming -- we wanted to know where Dennis was.

Probably local TV should have stayed with the hurricane and national TV should have been reporting other things as well.

3. I weaned off all cable news and I'm much happier. Now I read the
real news here at DU. Why waste my time listening to the shrill artist that are only selling air time and fear? Turn it off and get turned on by the truth. Until the ratings drop for cable news they'll keep catapulting the propaganda.

4. I just happen to come across it.
I don't really watch CNN that often but I guess I just curious. I will bet Ted Turner in a way regrets that he sold off CNN to Time Warner. It's all crap now!

5. You said it: fear, fear, fear
all they're selling. They overhype every hurricane like it's the end of the world.

6. I have to admit that I find Anderson "Hurricane Boy" Cooper amusing
I get a laugh out of him. He really gets a charge out of storm chasing.

9. I think he made that Ramada sign come down

He was jumping up and down saying, "Watch Out For The Sign, get Out Of The Way!"

He should have gotten his butt out of the way.

Oh, he was sounding like Geraldo,,,
Get him off of my TV please.

7. Hurricane coverage might be annoying
for those who would rather hear about other things, but it's very useful for those in the area about to be hit.

And, of course, you can always change the channel or--God forbid--turn off the teevee.

8. True but 24/7 coverage??!?!?
Come on. Let's face it, if you live in Hurricane Alley, you should already know how to take care of yourself in a storm. You don't need talking heads telling you info. 24/7

Just my opinion.

10. This afternoon I thought I was watching "Jackass."
I was doing a little channel surfing when Dennis hit the shore and I briefly stopped on CNN. Anderson Cooper was there with a film dodging wind blown debris like it supposed to be news. It was hilarious. Once I had my laugh I went elsewhere for some real news.

11. CNN is absolutely nauseating.
I have not watched cable news in years, but the other night while putting in a video, saw the broadcasts right after the London bombings. I'm in Australia, so it was evening, and our local station picked up CNN for the coverage.

They were in a frenzy, waiting for the death count. I watched for a while, then watched my video when they started endlessly repeating themselves, then watched the CNN coverage for a while to see what was happening in London.

The reporters were all in a lather, desperately waiting for the police to release the "casualty count". It was all they talked about. You could see palpable disappointment when the death count wasn't nearly as high as they seemed to be hoping it was. Vultures.

They do this crap every time there is a hurricane. I grew up in Louisiana. One year we had SEVEN hurricanes - not huge ones, but big storms. That area of the world is used to fierce weather - occluded weather fronts with severe thunderstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes. Almost all hurricanes lose strength once they make landfall. Stay off the beaches, evacuate if necessary, batten down the hatches, don't be stupid and go running around outside - you'll be okay in most cases. Simple. Hurricanes are nothing new if you live in Hurricane Alley - and it's sort of like sharks. Don't want to risk being eaten by a shark? Don't go into his living room. Don't want to risk being affected by a hurricane? Don't live in hurricane country.

This is not to deny the damage caused by these storms - it can be horrific, and sometimes all the precautions in the world won't help - like the situation in Florida last summer. That was out of the ordinary. Usually, people can deal with a hurricane and get back to normal within a reasonable amount of time.

Ever notice that news reporters can't just say a hurricane has made landfall, or has crossed an area? It has to SLAM into the area! Places are BATTERED by the FURY of a hurricane. According to news channels like CNN, hurricanes have WRATH and WREAK HAVOC.

And they're so, so disappointed if there aren't plenty of bodies and heartbroken survivors of dead people to go and point their damn cameras at.

If I see CNN on my local station again, I'll just turn the damn tube off.

14. Did you see Anderson Cooper get caught in it yesterday?
I was laughing the whole time. And he was enjoying it too.
