There's a HUGE difference in leaking in Plame case vs all other |
|
well known leaks and their outcome. The leak in the Plame case was NOT to expose some shady dealings about our government or to protect our democracy from scroundrals or to reveal wrongdoing by our government. The Plame leak was purely for political smearing of a person and to protect the shaky underpinnings of the WMD lie to the American people. When the power of evil politicians can use the cover of the highest levels of our government to bring it to bear on an individual or group of individuals just because they do not toe the administration's political line and support its lies, that's a huge difference and it needs to be exposed and people need to go to jail, especially when the personal vendetta endangers the lives of many people.

2. Isn't this what spies are jailed for? |

I have read where some want to spin this as a threat to whistleblower cases, which makes no sense to me.
This is not a First Amendment issue it is national security.

I was kind of ticked to hear Al Franken today couching this in some "Freedom of the Press" issue, and portraying Miller like some kind of hero. I'm sorry, but Miller is not protecting a whistle-blower, but rather she is a DIRECT WITNESS to a FELONY. If Miller had witnessed a rape, then had written a story about it, and then refused to identify the rapist due to "First Amendment issues", how would we react to that?
