Did anyone watch the History Channel's program about the Afghan Gold ?
It was amazing and showed the dangers war poses to archeological finds in a war zone and the brave people who defended those finds during the (ongoing) Afghan War.

It is amazing that the Taliban was destroying their own cultural heritage in the months that led up to the war.

If you can catch it at a later time, it is well worth a watch.

Mods: forgive me if this is not the right forum.

2. I watched it last night
well, some of it anyway.

I was mesmerized!!

What ever happened to the chest of gold that dated back to Alexander the Great?

It wasn't in the vault when it was finally opened.

I must add that I was quite offended -- the people who put this together acted as if it were THEIR gold.

I couldn't help but dwell on the looting of the Iraqi museum.

6. Actually even tho the finder was a Russian..or a french! man..
He gave over everything to the Afghan Museum..
He was dedicated to the idea that the Afghans should have every bit of it.

3. Wasn't It Mostly Budists Stuff The Taliban Was Destroying?
I don't know why I had that impression. At any rate I am sure that the members of the Taliban did not think of what they were doing as destroying their culture. I believe they felt they were destroying the enemys of their culture.
