Is it really tru that Lee Atwater begged for forgivness from the American
public while he was on his death bed? Just heard this on Mike Malloy's show.

He's predicting Rove will do the same!

4. It's true.
My x went to high school with him in Columbia SC and said even then he was an arrogant A hole. He was dying of brain cancer and found Jesus.

"I've found Jesus Christ - It's that simple. He's made a difference."

7. Here is a little snip I found
doing a quick search....

http://www.forerunner.com/forerunner/X0319_Lee_Atwaters_change.html

After having destroyed the political reputation of the Democratic candidate, Atwater testified: "I don't hate anyone anymore. For the first time in my life I don't hate somebody. I have nothing but good feelings toward people."

In the most dramatic, spiritual conversion since that of President Richard Nixon's hatchet man, Chuck Colson, Lee Atwater has promised to make peace with those he has mistreated. He now admits that having made disparaging remarks about Columbia attorney Tom Turnispeed's clinical treatment for depression was one of the "low points" of his career.

10. Wonder why Shrub, with all his born again beliefs hasn't been able
to convert Rove yet? Is he waiting for Rove's death bed scare?

I'd have thought all those fundies would have been able to convert Rove by now too!

8. At least Atwater liked James Brown. Rove digs Michael Jackson.
Reagan/Bush I were failed presidents with some achievements (not nearly enough for my taste but a few).

Bush is our Caligula! He is not "failed" or "bad" or "incompetent."

He is the worst President and one of the worst major world leaders of the last 50 years. Therefore, any call for fogiveness by Rove will be like O'Reilly calling for a friendlier office environment.

9. Yes. Atwater regretted his rabid
politics of personal destruction before his death. Atwater went after Mike Dukakis with the Willie Horton attack ad. From his deathbed, Atwater repented for his part in the distortion of Dukakis' record and his cruel characterizations of a fine man.
Not that Atwater's plea for redemption has much resonance with his supposedly Christian brethren. They're as ruthless and venal as ever.
I don't expect remorse from the likes of Karl Rove.

11. Lee Atwater was a honey. Too bad he was so disguntingly ugly
on the inside.

He died very young, too.

So much evil, so little time.

15. The ugliness obviously ate his insides
he definitely doesn't live up to the adage 'only the good die young'. this man was pure evil.

he didn't live to see 50.

I forgot how old he was when he died -- I think mid-40's.

24. Weirdness...
...he kinda looks like Ralph Reed after some bizarre Portrait (Picture?) of Dorian Gray makeover.

If he understood what he had done at the end, I for one pray he died contrite. What an awful way to die, and what an awful way to have lived (if all I hear is true).

13. If I recall correctly, he made calls to some of those he'd smeared
to apologize and they hung up on him or berated him for it. And good enough for him. He deserved it and then some. I hope at the very least he's in purgatory for a million years.

17. Conservatives have religion while they're well
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 09:38 PM by AuntieM1957
it takes ill health and impending death to bring them spirituality.

Religion is the invention of man, and has absolutely no value - except to control the weak minded.

19. Something about staring death in the face
makes you take stock of your life. It's something virtually anyone who knows their time is near will do.

Lee Atwater looked back on his life and saw the careers he'd destroyed, the reputations he'd sullied, and the good people he'd mocked for personal gain.

Looking back on a life like that, you'd repent too.

22. Rove will burn CHIN UP for the CONspirators.
Once a pigshit, ALWAYS a pigshit. His circle of Hell will be spending every day of drowning in Iraqi blood and having multiple candiru swim up his firehose while it happens. His tortured gurgled screams as the barbs lock inside and the red stenchy liquid fills his lungs will be a deserved reminder of all of the death and suffering . .. in NYC . . . in Washington . . . in PA . . . in Afghanistan . . . in Iraq . . . and wherever else . . . that he let happen through propaganda, dirty tricks and election theft.

"finding him" must be really depressing.

Death bed confession for Rove or firing squad defiance?
