I just finished listening to Dion's "Abraham, Martin, and John"
As a survivor of the 60's, it chokes me up every time.

Thought I'd post the lyrics . . . if that's alright with the moderator.

Copyright 1968 by Dick Holler

Has anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good die young,
But I just looked around and he's gone.

Has anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good die young,
But I just looked around and he's gone.

Has anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good die young,
But I just looked around and he's gone.

Didn't you love the things they stood for?
Didn't they try to find some good for you and me?
And we'll be free.
Someday soon, it's gonna be
One day.

Has anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walkin'
Up over the hill,
With Abraham, Martin and John.

Dammit people, we need to take back our country! We owe it to our children, the world, and ourselves!

Has anybody here seen Dear Lady Liberty
I could hear her scream from across the sea
I thought the people love her here
But I just look around and she's gone

3. Chokes me up, too
First time I heard it, I thought he was referring to friends of his who died in Vietnam - gave it a more personal feel. But even though King, Lincoln, and JFK all came before my time, it still hits me.

6. It was personal enough for those of us who lived through it.
Each one of those losses were personal then and still.

8. steppenwolf "monster"
Funny, I just finished listening to "Monster", a Viet Nam protest song done by Steppenwolf around 1969.

I was left with the same feeling as you, plus the sadness that comes with the realization that history is repeating itself, and that we failed to learn from our mistakes.
