I went to union seminar on gettting trustees elected, and they said if you have a good occupation to put next to your name in the voter pamphlet, that alone can make a difference--after all, who would you trust more, an entrepenuer/lawyer or teacher/nurse?

I served two terms on my town council, a total of six years, for most of which I was the only Democrat on the 7 member Mayor and Council.

Want to know a secret? The local Republicans are exactly the same as they are in Washington. Whispering campaigns to discredit me personally, rumors about my personal life, some pretty disgusting.

But the joke is on them because this past year the Republican Mayor was forced to quit or be indicted by the County Prosecutor and the Dems now hold a 5-1 majority on the Council and are about to wipe the wingnuts out completely this November.

I don't have too many skeletons in my closet (at least not any worse than the last two presidents) but it doesn't matter with these creeps. They'd attack Snow White. I wouldn't do it because I wouldn't put my family through the lies and character assassin. I wouldn't want to have to worry every time I get on a plane that my family might end up motherless. I'm glad others have the guts to do it but I'll have to do my part in some other way.

Taking a page from the GOP playbook and starting at the local level. Our town has 5 fatass GOP oldboys who've been entrenched for the last 10 years, voting themselves raises every year and handing out no-bid contracts to their buddies. It's gotta stop. If nothing else, I can annoy them, and it will be worth it.

I broke the unanimous GOP hold on my town and though I am no longer in office (served 2 terms) we now have a strong Dem majority and the wingnut Mayor just had to resign for closing his eyes on the town treasurer (his consort) stealing money.

We have a highway supervisor who's like a little Hitler. Someone's gotta put the brakes on the guy. He gets a blank check from the board and bullies the citizens. It's outrageous.
