Dems doing the best thing about Roberts now - nothing
Smile a lot, say he looks like a real good guy who went to swell schools and has experience. The hearings aren't going to take place for a least a month and a half anyway (summer recess begins next week). Then in September they can make all the noise they want if that is what they are going to do.

But now, having said basically nothing - BACK TO ROVEGATE.

1. The question is...
Will the Democratic senators realize this and not play into Bush's distraction?

7. I think Reid and Schumer are leading the way
Polite responses saying that Roberts looks good but we will have to wait and see what the hearings may show. Thank you very much.

Now, about Rove.....

5. An early Kick
Reid should call off the dems on Roberts (for now). You are right Jersey Devil. Let bush get maybe half a day news on his nomination and then let it sit for a month.

BACK TO ROVE. NOW!

6. It's a question of picking the fights you can win
As much as I wish I were wrong, the Democrats are not going to win a fight over Roberts.

The Plame unmasking, on the other hand, threatens to expose how the web of lies that justified the invasion was constructed and bring the entire regime down. If that happens, Bush and Cheney will be before judges, not nominating them.

14. Is it just me or is anybody else just a little skeptical about Kerry
calling for Bush to fire Rove NOW. Now, I'm not one to believe that grown men actually stick by the rules of a group they were in when they were in college, but I think calling for Rove to be fired now is just a really dumb thing to do. We should just let Fitz do his job and if he doesn't do it right, then we can start screaming for a congressional investigation.

17. Isn't it innocent until proven guilty? . . .
Or at the least, until he's indicted?

If there's anything to push at the moment, it may be to deny Rove his EBI-TS clearance. But to call for him to be fired? That's the kind of punk act you expect from a mindless reactionary.

18. Kerry knows that he lost because he was behind the curve on Iraq
Had he been out front like Dean and opposed the war he'd be President Kerry now. My guess is that he is trying to get out in front this time and sees it as his opportunity to stand out as a bold leader with something to point to when the 2008 primaries roll around.

It's smart politics, but even though I have been a Kerry supporter I too am skeptical. Does he really mean it? Who knows?

15. traitorgate~ they are sweating over this and we need to keep the
pressure on

of course a scotus pick is absolutely crucial but youre right - congress wont be really dealing with this for over a month

dont let up on the thing directly in front of the country. they want this diversion but lets not give it to them
