Holy Batcrap - Pentagon getting desperate - to raise recruitment age to 42

So technically you could be a grand-daddy and enlist!

Uncle Sam wants you – even if you’re 42 years old

By Rick Maze / Army Times

The Defense Department quietly asked Congress on Monday to raise the maximum age for military recruits to 42 for all branches of the service. Under current law, the maximum age to enlist in the active components is 35, while people up to age 39 may enlist in the reserves. By practice, the accepted age for recruits is 27 for the Air Force, 28 for the Marine Corps and 34 for the Navy and Army, although the Army Reserve and Navy Reserve sometimes take people up to age 39 in some specialties.

The Pentagon’s request to raise the maximum recruit age to 42 is part of what defense officials are calling a package of “urgent wartime support initiatives” sent to Congress Monday night prior to a Tuesday hearing of the House Armed Services military personnel subcommittee.

3. Every time I mention the possibility of the draft, my Repuke cousin says
There isn't going to to be a draft, it's only something to worry about, if they start recruiting "older" people. Well, can I start worrying about it now? We are only a few years in this messy war and we are so desperately in need of people to serve, that we are going to use 40 somethings? Bush just said this war is going to take many years. So, in another few years are we going to go after men in there 50's, or will we have a draft?

4. I suggest you enlighten your cousin; the
situation is obviously not getting better. I agree that a draft seems inevitable unless someone with some brains gets control and gets us the hell out of there.

5. Lord knows I've tried. It's an uphill battle, that I just don't have the
energy to fight it anymore. Most of my family has come around. He's just a loss cause. I know it's sad, but I just can't deal with the dumb-asses in my family that still support Bush. I just ignore them. No cards, no calls, no nothing. I just can't deal with them anymore, they suck too much out of me.

8. I'm not preaching and am sorry if that's how it sounded.
I have two repug brothers and we absolutely cannot discuss politics. They are as hardheaded and unyielding as I am in their beliefs. We barely chat, but that fact has nothing to do with politics, just family dynamics. :)

6. Well, that'll help with those arguments with Bush/War supporters
who give the "I'm too old" when I ask why they haven't enlisted yet in our glorious crusade to spread freedom and democracy throughout the Middle East. Does it feel drafty in here?

7. Let them. It's clear that all of this and more is proof.
Draft age, corporations looking at irrelevant information (credit reports) to determine job eligibility :wtf:, nixing bankruptcy protection, nixing ADA and FMLA, ramping up payment rates which will only hurt families (and you lot can keep your haughty-taughty attitudes silent; who cares if they overspent on plastic crap or if they had to buy necessities - just shove it; they don't teach fiscal responsibility in schools and the card companies are hypnotic vultures when luring people in and that's as early as HIGH SCHOOL no less.)

PEAK OIL. They are starting the Culling, using financial status as a litmus test. (you'd think IQ is more important, but not on this idiot world of yours...)

Your world is fucked.

9. That should tell all of us old geezers where they will go with the draft
Figure they'll end up drafting up to 55 when it comes to that.

10. Yup, that's what I'm figuring on Walt
Send all of us old farts in as IED detectors, ie cannon fodder:eyes:

Wonder if they still have still have my original registration card, with "I am registering under protest, as a CO" across the top. Probably not, probably all computerized now, with notes in the margin eliminated.

Damn, and I thought I didn't have to sweat this out any more when I turned forty. Geez, they're going to get some of these old boys out in the desert who haven't done anything remotely stenous in twenty years, and watch them keel over from the stress. Hope they start sending defibulator units to basic training, they'll need them.
