Disgusting!
Yesterday, while sitting at a red light, a large truck, once used as a moving truck, passed in front of me with images of fetuses that had been aborted. They were all late 2nd or 3rd trimester abortions and the photos were blown up to immense size so that they covered the entire vehicle! It didn't register what the pictures were at first glance, but when I saw the words: "Right To Life!" plastered on the back of it, I got really mad.

There was a woman in the car to my right who had a horrible look on her face when she saw it and I could tell she was upset as well. Not to mention that she had children in her car who saw those pictures.

Why would anyone feel it was necessary to plaster such disturbing images all over a huge truck and drive around town just to show they are against abortion?? Knowing, as they must, that children are also going to see them!

If you're against something, fine! Say your peace and then shut up! But do NOT assult the rest of us with such stuff. I am pro-choice. But I do not go around with pictures all over my car! I'm sure the person who thought of that and then drove the truck through the streets of my city was a repug. Some people just need a good swift kick in the ass!

40. Much sweeter and less gruesome.
Buy or make a load of bumper stickers that read "Fuck the police," or some similar sentiment. There's some good ones at this link. Tail the truck until it stops, sneak up, and put some stickers on it. If you want to go the extra mile, phone in an anonymous tip about a suspicious person driving a truck with violent images and anti-police bumper stickers. Either way, they'll get on the wrong side of the police pretty quick, and with any luck they'll soon push it a little too far.

crazy Indiana religious groups either bring the truck or huge signs screaming at all us kids about how slutty and evil we are and evil abortion sponsors. We just walk past the boards and keep going, that is all you can do because you can't debate them, people have tried and failed and there is no changing of their minds, it will never happen.

8. there are organized 'groups' who do this
do a search for genocide awareness project. loosely known as the G-A-P.

this particular group makes a point of traversing the country and setting up displays on college campuses comparing abortion to the holocaust/lynching etc. the campus conservative mag at my college was responsible for inviting these idiots. they received such little positive support they packed up and left early. that and we staged a fabulous counter protests;-)

the worst memory i have of the situation was seeing one of these people tell a female student who had been raped that she should not have had an abortion. i mean, right to her face - 2 feet away. fortunately for that person there was a barrier separating the female student from him.

sick cruel people.

I'm trying to work up a rear window sticker now, subtle enough to get the idea across but logical. Right now, I'm about to go with: "LIMIT YOUR RIGHTS: Vote Republican" or "RESTRICT YOUR RIGHTS: Vote Republican" *tosses coin*

12. I agree with you about the signs, but disagree about the solution
The trucks and signs are digusting and I would not not want my children to be exposed to them. HOwever, you said:

"If you're against something, fine! Say your peace and then shut up! But do NOT assult the rest of us with such stuff."

I heard these same arguments during the lead-in to the Iraq war when protesters in Portland took to the streets and disrupted downtown traffic for a couple hours. The thing is, you can't expect people to honor your first amendment rights to expression and association if you aren't willing to accept the same from the opposition.

Just my .02

Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 11:31 AM by YOY
Who spent more time talking about abortion than other issues.

He plastered those images all over his classrooms walls. Students complained but to no avail he was just set in his ways to prevent "baby murder" through shock tactics.

Naturally we pulled down the maps over them before he came to class and that just pissed him off even more. He would sourly walk to each and every one and reveal them in a huff.

So we continued doing it...and started taping porn (including one Playgirl centerfold) over the gruesome image.

The look on his face when he rolled up the map...a good time was had by all!

no. He was as idiotically adamant as ever.

We indeed were alright. We respected most of our teachers.

This guy was just a social studies teacher who forced his opinions down our throats. He had worked there so long that any complaints of him fell on dead ears. Regardless of how we, the students, felt about abortion those posters were vile. It is hard to concentrate on a lesson about the Constitution (and of course he enforced all his beliefs with it) when you have a dead fetus looking at you.

I'll never forget the look on his face when he caught a glimpse of the playgirl centerfold...priceless.

I was so glad my 4 yr old wasn't with me. I know she would have been very upset by the images. I have seen plenty of pro-life propaganda during my life, but this was quite beyond that.

I'm not sure this is protected by first amendment and all. Wouldn't this be akin to shouting fire in a theater? As far as I could tell, the truck's only goal was to drive back and forth through town. Accidents are inevitable.

They have become more bold bcs they know they have the support of the White House behind them.

And another thing - why is this protected by 1st amendment, but showing a man's penis on a truck that big isn't?

51. It IS disgusting.
I've seen signs like that being held by pro-lifers outside the gates of Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park.

Hello, it's a place where the children who have actually been born go to have fun! Why the hell put those kind of disgusting scare tactic signs up THERE?

Oh wait, because they don't really care about children. I've finally figured that out. These sick bastards don't care about children at all. They only care about imposing their religious morality on the rest of us. No matter that there are people who a)aren't Christian (like me), b)aren't fundamentalist whackjob Christians like they are, or c)believe that separation of church and state applies to the fundie nutjobs like it does the rest of us. That doesn't matter. After all, I've actually heard this said by my fundie whackjob in-laws, separation of church and state is not guaranteed by the Constitution, and doesn't apply to them anyway because they're doing God's work. I just quote Matthew 22:21 to them, "Give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and give unto Me the things that are Mine." Drives 'em nuts every time.

Of course, God help the first fundie whackjob that waves one of those signs in my daughter's face. He or she will have to go to the emergency room for signectomy of the rectum.

They're sick people. And they think that since their Dim Son made it to the pResidency, they are now the "cool kids" and get to run the show. Nope. Didn't work when they were in high school, and it doesn't work now. The rest of us will not be subjected to their version of morality.
