They started smearing people even before they moved in and it has never stopped. I'm still pissed about that particular one--it was so unnecessary.

1. As far as I know, the only ting they did was remove the "W" key
from the computers. I give them credit for THAT ONE! After all the damn I'm W, and W means crap, I would have done that too!

I think Shrub himself actually said that the trashing stories were not true.

14. on certain keyboard types, you can do this without causing damage
I've popped the key covers off and moved some of them around on my own keyboard (partly to combat boredom, and partly so I can ID it again if anyone "borrows" equipment). I don't ever recall seeing pics of the "destroyed" keyboards, so I can't comment on whether any of them were in fact fixable.

17. As far as I know, the keyboards weren't destroyed, just removed the "W"
cap. I guess I'm just vindictive, but I thought that was really funny! I'd have done it without any guilt at all!

I've popped off keys on my boadr too. One because I spilled beer on it and it was sticking!!!

19. to hear the Bushies scream, you'd think Clinton's people ...
... had piled all the computer equipment up in the Oval Office and smashed it with sledgehammers! They were going on about "vandalized" this and "destroyed" that -- along with a list of how much it would cost the US taxpayers, of course. Looks pretty silly if the only thing they had to do was replace the W's from that bagful in the desk drawer!

2. Geez they smeared so much I forgot about that one. One of their
methods is to keep things confusing.

3. Bush has trashed the United States in the last 4 and a half years.
And that ISN'T a lie like the Clinton story was.

6. If the W key story is true (and it should be...)
Then it was probably office people pulling a harmless prank - keytops pop off easily for cleaning on most keyboards. I heard they were in a bag in a drawer too, so it's not like they "defaced government equipment". Just a lil harmless fraternity prank easter egg hunt for the new lackeys! :)

4. Read this Scott Simon (NPR) essay
Simon has never answered my email asking for a retraction.

Note the ridiculous tone of the piece. He should have reserved his indignance for any fool that reported this made up story without verifying it.

http://www.npr.org/programs/wesat/010127.whitehouse.html

SIMON: ...W's. Departing Democrats defamed computer keyboards of their `W' keys. It was a prank eight years ago. Outgoing Republicans had left Bush-Quayle stickers behind to grin at Democrats from desk drawers and computer terminals. But bumper stickers can be removed, ha-ha. At least some Clinton staffers also apparently glued filing cabinets shut, switched around the face plates on telephones and overturned desk chairs and tables. Ho-ho! Scores of keyboards have to be replaced, tee-hee. Lewd cartoons were left in computer printers. Yuck, yuck. And, finally, some of the staff who accompanied the Clintons to New York on their presidential 747 apparently absconded with some of the flatware and china assigned to the plane. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk. Part of the fun of a prank, after all, is enjoying the vision of making people laugh. Did the departing White House staffers think that vandalism is a laugh riot?

The small acts of destruction and theft somehow seem all of a piece with the Clintons' last moments in the White House, pardoning rich people with political links and accepting almost $200,000 worth of furnishings, silverware, china and a large-screen TV. The Clintons were calculating enough to accept the gifts in those few golden days between Senator Clinton's election and her oath of office, when Senate ethics laws would prohibit accepting such a trousseau of treasures.

Now there's nothing wrong with living large. But how much of the Clintons' new Robin Leach lifestyle is the American public supposed to support? Mr. Clinton is causing the government to rent an entire floor of office space in midtown Manhattan. Some other ex-presidents have settled for cheaper space, in capacious federal office buildings that are centrally located but not so near Carnegie Hall and The Russian Tea Room. Mr. Clinton's just signed a $3 million speech contract. The space American taxpayers are renting for him will presumably be used to make even more money. Senator Clinton signed an $8 million book contract just before being sworn to uphold the Senate ethics regulations. After so many years of public service, Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton are rich. Maybe they deserve to be. But they can also buy their own silverware, rather than accept gifts from people with the reason to seek favors. It is the enduring image the Clinton administration leaves with so many Americans, moments of brilliance, undermined by insistent immaturity.

10. I remember Andrea Mitchell's breathless nightly reports
on this 'scandal'. She cited WH sources saying not only did they trash the WH but stole items from Air Force 1. When this was proven false, I emailed both Mitchell and Timmy Russert numerous times and demanded that they out their source, because the source lied to them. Of course I got no response.

13. I just thought of that the other day
and I was surprised at how that still sticks in my craw! Those "liberal" reporters (and I use the word "reporter" verrrry loosely) just loved sinking their fangs into that red meat that Ari Fleischer, by pretending not to talk about it, threw at them like the pack of hyenas they are.
This is still grouped with all the sleazy behavior the Clintons supposedly did along with Whitewater, which they were exonerated of long before Ken Starr ever knew who Monica Lewinsky was!

:grr:
