3. Tit for tat?
Two issues:

1) May get someone worse
2) Dems will get rightfully accused of obstructionism

I say let Bolton make an ass out of himself and then get voted out next session.

7. Why I don't think it'll come to that - -
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 04:46 PM by Ready2Snap
If * uses a recess appointment to put Bolton at the UN, it'll precipitate 2 things:

1- Neither * nor the Repugs in the Senate need to be made look weak,
which a recess appointment will do, by having every report of the appointment
by the damned "librul" media include, "Bolton, who Bush was unable to get confirmed in the Senate, . . .".
Admitting weakness(this schmuck can't even admit a mistake)
at not being able to get is nominee thru the Repug-controlled Senate, would just about kill *.
(BTW: Frist--Good Luck in '08)

2- Roberts' nomination to the SC will be coming to the floor for confirmation after the summmer recess.
There is already evidence that some Republican Sens. have rediscovered their backbones and their integrity
(see post about McCain's amendnment to pending legislation),
plus the 7 who make up half of the gang of 14 that brokered the filibuster deal,
don't need much more to break completely with Bushco and vote down Roberts,
which would be a major body blow to li'l George and his "legacy."
Not to mention pissing off the fundies, who are expecting their due for their '04 efforts.

All this to put that buffoon in a place where he'll be roundly despised and probably ignored
just doesn't seem worth it to me.
Besides, his name keeps popping up in the Plame investigation.
If he becomes involved in that as well,
it'll make his decision seem even worse.
It's just a theory.
