Casual activism made easy... Part 1 (No excuses - anyone can do this!)
(Sometimes a response makes a good re-post)

Everyone here should make some attempt to educate the general public about what this administration is REALLY up to.

Here's how I go about it;

I never miss an opportunity to engage someone in such a way that they are receptive to new information.

Whether it's at the gas pump when people are bitching about gas prices, in the store where people complain about chicken breast being $5 a pound, or just anywhere the news is on and I can give off an audible snicker.

First... always take their side.

I say, "Yep, you are correct, that's all because of energy prices... and it's only going to get worse."

Usually I get murmurs of agreement, that is a good sign of receptivity. To these I respond, "Hey, if you like putting things together, I can give you three things to google that you'll really get a kick out of." (or some variation)

"Really? What's that?"

"Well, you have to put some thought into it to see how they fit together, but you strike me as pretty bright so I think you'll find it kind of neat."

"Ok"

"Look up...", then I give them three out of the following (depending on the circumstances); "PNAC" / "Peak Oil" / "Reserve Currency" + "Iraq"/ "building 7 footage" / "downing street minutes"

Never more than three... too much is off-putting.

I've not yet failed to get someone to write these down, and everytime I've checked back with the store clerk, the cashier, the guy at the gym... who ever, where ever, they give me some variation of, "Wow... the world seems a little different now..."

I've had people respond with everything from, "It's harder to sleep at night", to, "Yeah- I figured there was something going on."

Not yet have I been called a conspiracy nut... but I'm ready with a response for that one.

So everyone here has an obligation to take any and every opportunity to educate others. Never pontificate. Always use the 'Hey, wanna see somethin' REALLY neat?' (or 'scary'... any variation will do) right after establishing receptivity.

If everyone at DU did this everyday, the world would be a different place overnight. If even 5% of DU'ers did this all the time... then we can be assured that we will one day get our Democracy back.

If you interact with people anywhere outside of home and have even rudimentary communication skills, you can do it.

1. That's a great way to get people to favorable react to being taught
about what this bunch of criminals have brought us to. I commend you spirit and your PATIENCE.

Personally when I come up against anyone who's had their head up their ass for the past five years I just want to grab them by the throat and choke the life out of them.

8. Try it without the quotes. Then you'll get plenty.

Here you go...

It's a beautifully crafted demolition.

A DELIBERATE demolition.

Unless you're truly brainwashed, you get the point.
