3. Well, it all depends on what the meaning of membership is
You talk about "parsing" words and this guy rates #1.

We don't need someone on the SC like him. He might not know if he really is a member or if dues are required.

6. I think the Dems are desperate for a candidate with professional
qualifications who is not Bork or Scalia. It is hard to argue with someone who is qualified. We have to be discerning about the fights we pick. I think that is the message from Democratic Leadership.

They don't want to be labeled as obstructionists when the guy would look to be qualified to many.

I agree you cannot fight every battle.

And who would the Repukes put forward to replace Roberts other than another conservative who is less qualified.

What are the Dems going to do - stop all nominations for 3 more years?

That is not possible.
