A Modest Proposal: Winning Wars the Tancredo Way
Ed Quillen - Denver Post:

Snip

But as Tancredo said, perhaps it is time "to hold a good discussion"
about this, and after due thought, it appears that his proposal might actually further the cause of world peace.
How? By removing one major cause of conflict. So many modern disputes are not about the traditional reasons for war, like control of resources, but are instead about the control of places alleged to be sacred and holy.

Consider one minor domestic dispute - control of Martin's Cove, a Wyoming spot between Rawlins and Casper. According to church historians, 56 Mormon handcart pioneers died there in 1856. Every summer, thousands of modern Mormons visit, dressed in old-time costumes and pulling handcarts. Some consider it "holy ground," and the Mormon Church wants to buy the property from the federal government.

So take the Tancredo approach, and destroy the sacred place. No bomb would be necessary - just treat it the same way the Bush administration treats other public land. It will swarm with seismic thumpers and drill rigs; the hand-cart re-enactors will quickly find some quieter spot where it's easier to pretend they're in 1856.

Whaddya think? Remove the cause for war by removing the holy sites? Maybe Tom's on to something! :sarcasm:

1. I think the writer was being sarcastic, but the problem is that religion
is not the cause of this dispute/war/terrorism.

2. Yes and Yes.
He's being very sarcastic, and is trying to get that point across to Tancredo - this is not a religious war, so stop acting like it is.
