WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US Senate's Foreign Relations Committee unanimously approved the nomination of Karen Hughes to a new diplomatic post designed to repair the United States' tattered image around the world.
Hughes, a close advisor to President George W. Bush, was approved by the panel to assume to post of Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy.

A spokesman for the committee said a full Senate vote would likely come later this week.

At her confirmation hearing last week, Hughes told the committee that she would strive to convince the world of US "goodness and decency."

Was that good PR or bad PR?

(I think she is a BAD witch)

Not sure why they need a special new position at state for this. Seems like convincing the world how wonderful we are should be part of everyone's job.

3. good lord that thick stupid vindictive woman is the last person
on the planet that is even remotely qualified for a position like that.

She's like the love child of Ari Fleischer, John Cornyn, John Bolton, and Condoliar Rice.

I sure hope the extra embryos don't accidentally get into the stem cell supply.

5. I'm not terribly worried
As we used to say in the Navy, you can't make chicken salad out of chickensh*t.

So they make up a new post to repair our image around the world. How is anyone supposed to do that? I think as far as the rest of the world is concerned, actions will speak louder than words at this point. What actions exactly will Ms. Hughes recommend? And which of those recommendations will be carried out?

11. Don't worry, it is . . .
Just this morning on NPR I heard an interview with a French woman who is trying to set up "conversation zones" in Paris, similar to smoking areas, where if you go there you can engage in conversations with strangers on any mutually agreeable topic and for any mutually agreeable length of time. During the interview, they carried on a conversation with another man, translating Kerouac's "On the Road" into colloquial French.

Think that would happen here?

or hotdogs.

I'm glad we're the only stupid people on this earth. I feel better already. Thanks!

6. Yeah, that'll work out well.........
:eyes:. She has all the warmth and charm of the southbound end of a northbound horse, without the looks! Why doesn't bush, just once, pick someone who just MIGHT be suited for the job instead of some old crony of his (in this case, crone) who swears never ending allegiance to HIM?
He has made the absolute WORST choices for positions within his administration than any other President in history.

What a douche-bag! :eyes:

10. Why do Dems even bother to show up in Congress?
Maybe they should all go back to their home states and try to help the local folk.

18. This DOES bring up another issue though...
Why do Democrats keep showing up on FOX news, where they can never get in a word edge wise, and are always made to look foolish?

I wish they would boycott FOX and let FOX look at how silly THEY look when all they have are their OWN FACIST, ANN COULTER LOVING IDIOTS!!

13. Gee,
when are these clowns going to learn that they need to use a rather different style of psywar on other countries.

The American people have been well conditioned to lap up the neocon vomit, but people in other countries have not been (so well, anyway).

Divvying up the loot. Rewarding the loyal flunkies, etc.

Some idiots may even believe that this ghoul can make the neocon's usual bile look like some delicacy to foreigners also.

Don't bet on it.

Of course, one should also never underrate the gullibility of the average person, here, there, or anywhere. It's human weakness.

WASHINGTON Jul 27, 2005 — The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved the nomination of Karen Hughes, a former political adviser to President Bush, as the State Department's top public relations official.

No one thought she was a bit ideological for the position?
