I was really considering re-uping in the Army Guard |
|
until I read this:
Virginia Army Guard Soldiers Ordered to Active Duty
BLACKSTONE, Va. - Maj. Gen. Claude Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia, announced that approximately 157 Soldiers of Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 111th Field Artillery, stationed in Richmond, Va. will enter active federal service at their home armory on Sept. 21, 2005. The Virginia Army National Guard Soldiers are currently scheduled to travel to their mobilization station, Ft. Dix, N. J. after a short period of duty at their home armory.
The Soldiers of Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 111th Field Artillery are being ordered to active federal service for 18 months beginning Sept. 21, 2005. The Secretary of the Army may extend this period up to a total of 24 months based on operational needs or other requirements. General Williams declined to speculate on what the final deployment location of the unit may be.

That means, upon my (possible) return, my son will be almost 3 years old. In the words of somebody much smarter than I: "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck that shit"

1. Probably in the same paper is a story about how troops will be withdrawn |
|
by 2006. Why would they need more troops if they were planning to withdraw them fairly soon? As an employer I could never risk my business by hiring a National Guardsman or an Enlisted Reservist. We are required by law to keep their jobs open until they return and there is no telling when that may be so just can't hire them in the first place. Never used to feel this way until Bush* broke the Guard.

2. I loved the Army when I was in it, hence I've had pangs to return... |
|
but not if the Guard assets are going to be abused like this.

3. Dubya has abused all of the military assets available to him. |
|
Not for decades has our national, including domestic, security been in worse hands.
