Larry Johnson: "More Lies From the Right"
Now for the Truth:

Admiral Inman was quoted out of context. I spoke with him this afternoon after alerting him to the National Review online quote. He takes very seriously the compromise of Valerie's cover. He was telling Mr. Spruiell that anyone in the intel community would not be in a position to intuitively know whether Valerie was or was not undercover at first glance. However, since they are in the intel community they have clearances and should not be out and about talking about people they do not know.

For the record, Valerie Plame was not working as a CIA analyst, she was undercover, per press reports, as an Energy Analyst for Brewster Jennings. Inman did not misstate her position, and told me he has no firsthand knowledge of her cover status. This speaks very poorly about the journalistic standards of the NRO.

To show how pathetically ignorant the National Review is on this matter, there have been CIA officers who started off as an analyst, who like me were undercover. They later switched-over to an operations officer career track and are now serving overseas in undercover positions.

What is so despicable about all of this is that the conservative movement, .... More at the link:

One gets the impression that Mr Johnson and others are not going to allow any distortion to remain unchallenged. Perhaps that is why folk at the LA Times Editorial Board:

and, the Boston Globe Editorial Board:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4202498#4203486

are beginning to write about the issues, unambiguously.

Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - How ever long it takes, the day must come when tens of millions of caring individuals peacefully but persistently defy the dictator, deny the corporatists their cash flow, and halt the evil being done in Iraq and in all the other places the Bu$h neoconster regime is destroying civilization and the environment in the name of "America."

3. The other day I taped the CIA Hearings...
I made my husband watch after dinner and I was amazed at how focused he was. He loves his sports (get the picture?) so sometimes, when things like this are of importance to me...he'll humor me by watching but I know his mind is off "playing" somewhere. Not this time. He didn't take his eyes off of the screen. About 3/4 of the way through, he leaned over, grabbed the remote and pushed pause. He looked right into my eyes and said, "Honey, these men are patriots. They are the real heroes. Wow. So courageous."

Peace.:patriot:

BTW- I love Larry. His authentic passion for this country is inspiring!

7. Larry Johnson Is Hate Radio's Real Worst Nightmare
He's a lifelong Repugnican...even has given money.

He's was a College Repugnican recruited into "The Agency" by their own.

He's a "lifer" who has a distinguished career that can't be impeached or distorted. He speaks CIA, period.

He's not gonna back down one second and everyone knows where he stands.

This man is speaking sense, reason and the truth. He also is speaking for a large intelligence community that's about had enough of Mr. Trudblossom, Mr. Crashcart and their scapegoating.

10. This seems that it was inevitable in hindsight
When Jimmy Carter purged the CIA he created many of the monsters that have since taken an active role in supporting neocon/BFEE policies. The battle between them and the career guys who actually believe in serving the nation was bound to occur.

12. Agreed. And, I think the scope of the operation is substantial - CIA,
.... elements within the FBI, apolitical folk in the DoJ like Fitzgerald, elements within State, and probably one or more members of Congress who have an extensive understanding of the scale of the neocon threat.

Ambassador Wilson and Larry Johnson are not alone in their struggle to save America from the rabid neoconster mob, imho.

Peace.

13. It Wasn't Carter, It Was Ford...
Those CIA probes began in '74 and '75 under Scoop Jackson (the Neo Con idol...and, yes, a Democrat). That was payback during the "who lost Vietnam" debate.

What we're seeing is a whole new animal...created by this regime and, ironically, tearing apart the very agency Bunnypant's daddy was in charge of putting together. He was the CIA Director then. How strange things can be.

I'm reading the Armitage threads...there's another wing of "card carrying" Repugnicans who may not take this scandal sitting down.

Things are getting curiouser and curiouser...

20. How The Worm Has Turned...
I supported Jackson's work in those days...glad he was shining a light on a lot of the dirty tricks the CIA was into. Wasn't this when we learned about the plot to blow up Castro's beard? And all those neo-cons who worked for him. Sheesh. Reminds me of a post here earlier where some speculated (yours truly included) how many of the left wing idealists of today will be the Repugnican Neo-Cons of tomorrow.

Thanks for the post. I hope others picked up on it as well.

Cheers...

I accept the statement because it is obvious factions are involved but I didn't know Carter might be the starting point.

25. Larry Johnson: KEY FACTS ON THE PLAME CASE
KEY FACTS ON THE PLAME CASE

BY Larry C Johnson

July 28, 2005

Despite valiant efforts by the Republican National Committee and its supporters to perpetuate a smear, the facts are now clearly established regarding Valerie (Plame) Wilson's cover and her status at the CIA. Fair minded and reasonable people will examine these facts and realize that attacks on her integrity and reputation are unwarranted and wrong.

FACT 1 — Valerie (Plame) Wilson was undercover and occupied a sensitive position.

According to former CIA spokesman, Bill Harlow, “. . . after Novak's call, he checked Plame's status and confirmed that she was an undercover operative. He said he called Novak back to repeat that the story Novak had related to him was wrong and that Plame's name should not be used. But he did not tell Novak directly that she was undercover because that was classified.” (Washington Post, 27 July 2005)

The CIA filed a criminal referral with the Department of Justice on the leak of Valerie Plame’s name for violating the 1982 Intelligence Identities Protection Act in September 2003. The CIA would not have filed such an action if Valerie Plame were not undercover.

26. "Bolton’s office was responsible for the placement of the Niger uranium ..
... claims in the State Department’s December 2002 “fact sheet” on Iraq’s WMD program; claims that have since been exposed as baseless.

<clip>

The reason is straightforward. According to reports from MSNBC, John Bolton has testified to the grand jury investigating the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame. Not only is it possible that Bolton may have lied about this testimony in a questionnaire he filled out for his confirmation hearing, but the linkage to the Plame affair places Bolton, yet again, into a scenario in which intelligence was doctored for the sake of political gain. In fact, according to an investigation by the State Department Inspector General, Bolton’s office was responsible for the placement of the Niger uranium claims in the State Department’s December 2002 “fact sheet” on Iraq’s WMD program; claims that have since been exposed as baseless.

For the Bush administration, this means prolonged attention to the Karl Rove saga and yet another member of its “inner circle” associated with an emerging conspiracy. For Bolton — whose credibility is already so damaged it couldn’t possibly be made worse — the Plame linkage is yet another reason why he would do more harm then good at the United Nations. Undoubtedly, Bolton’s primary diplomatic asset — his proximity to the president — will be diminished as the administration distances itself from those involved in the leak.

And yet, as reported in The Washington Post and all but confirmed by Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel, the White House will likely go ahead with a recess appointment of Bolton, potentially as soon as this Saturday (July 30, 2005). Such a course of action, now more than ever, will be an utter blow to U.S. foreign policy interests and America’s position within the international community.

<clip>

The dangers of a recess appointment are clear. The additional damage that such a course of action would cause to Bolton’s credibility will handicap him at the United Nations and damage the United States’ negotiating capacity at a time when the future of the United Nations is at stake. Emerging stories of Bolton’s less-then-honest recounting of grand jury testimony and association with the Plame investigation simply add to the problem. America needs an ambassador who can help fix what’s wrong with the United Nations without abandoning what’s right; an ambassador who can champion American policy without damaging America’s reputation, an ambassador who has the ability to build alliances without resorting to doctoring intelligence. Bolton was not that ambassador to begin with. A recess appointment only makes him worse.

From Bolton's Abscess Appointment by Don Kraus and Sam Stein

A recess appointment will make it absolutely clear that lawless Bush is maniacally focused on destroying the UN. All part of destroying any mechanism for holding him accountable for his vast and expanding rap sheet of capital crimes.

27. Some where I have read that Mr. Bolton is willing to take a recess
appointment and it does not matter to him. This man wants to be ambassador so bad that he can taste it. Mr. Bolton will be a joke if he appointed without Senate approval, then again he is already a joke. Any other administration would have found a replacement by now.
