Tweety,Jerry Brown, Ronstadt, David Harris, Zen master Baker at a wedding
Absent Tweety, I'd like to have been there --

New York Times, "Vows"

Jessica Brandi Lifland for The New York Times
Chris and Kathleen Matthews.

....They were married on July 9 outside the Point Reyes Seashore Lodge in rural Olema, Calif. They recited their vows before the Rev. Paul Lee, a Lutheran minister, under a canopy of elm and willow trees, while a Swainson's thrush volunteered a melody. The ceremony included Sufi and Tibetan blessings, the latter given by Ms. Baker's father (Zen master Richard Baker). Afterward guests offered an only-in-Northern-California serenade of whistles, kazoos and Tibetan bells.

Among their guests were Ms. Ronstadt; Mayor Jerry Brown of Oakland; Chris Matthews, the cable TV anchor; and various other friends and David Harris, the writer and former husband of Joan Baez who went to prison rather than serve in the Vietnam War. "Where else would you have an ex-con hanging out with the polo crowd and everyone enjoying it?" Mr. Davis said....

2. Was that deliberate?
I had to read through much of the article, to find out WHO got married! Talk about getting upstaged at their own wedding ... by Sufis & Tibetans, even a Swainson's Thrush!! SHEESH!!!

(Sorry, I'm in a foul mood at the moment).

3. I did think it was better not to name the couple in the post....
They are a non-political couple, and I thought those interested could click and read.

Hope you feel better soon!
:)

4. I thought it was a lovely article
Oh, to be written up in the New York Times! They don't write wedding articles like that in the Oklahoma papers I read... lol.

6. Sorry for the grumpiness.
It isn't my usual style here on DU at all. And your warm-hearted and considerate explanation further puts me to shame. :hide: :hide: :hide:

Best regards. pnorman

8. My, convenient planning for Chris Matthews to be on the West coast
It's just a quick jaunt up the coast from Olema to the 'The Bohemian Grove' in Sonoma county. I understand the annual (anal?) encampment at the 'Grove' started just days after this typical Marin county wedding.

9. I think David Harris was student body president at Stanford in the 60s
he was anti war, went to jail, married Joan Baez, etc

10. I couldn't find the "Mr. Davis" quoted mentioned earlier in the article --
I was wondering if they meant to write "Mr. Harris," and the quote was his.
