1796...anyone paying attention?
http://icasualties.org/oif/

Almost 1,800 US troops have been killed in Iraq. I know we here at DU are senstive to this tragic loss...is anyone else in "official" American culture? I know America doesn't give a fuck, in general, about the Iraqi death rate, but the loss of our own over lies means nothing to us, too?

Get outraged and organize for the upcoming anti-war protests in September.

1. Counting methods ...
Whats even more disgusting is the way in which the Pentagon doesnt count any soldier en route to Germany. If you die on the plane ride, not a casualty.

8. Out of sight, out of mind. Invisible Coffins
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 08:14 PM by Moochy
I havent participated in these discussions, and have read things contrariwise, your site looks authoritative, so I can't argue with it.

I would only add that a huge reason the casualites are invisible is because they are illegal to film or photograph the arrival of the dead soldiers. I mean specifically the news media on television got the message to not dwell on the casualties, so as to seem unpatriotic.

What happened to the one photographer who published the photos of the coffins? was he fired or fined?

3. People are starting to wake up to this more I think
Not as fast as they should, but people are more aware of the cost of the war.

People are going to die in war - if the war had a good end or an acceptable end, those would be, I hate to use the term, acceptable losses. (The people who died on D-Day for example; tragic, but necessary).

More and more people are figuring out that this was an unecessary war!

5. Anti-war protests in September
I hope there is a good turn out in DC. It's still early yet, so it will be interesting to see what happens in Iraq and with the Rove Plame Blame game by then. I'm dreaming of a good old fashioned protest like this country use to have in the sixties.

I'm sick of attending the rather lame turn outs that we have been having lately. Why can't we have a Kerry sized rally of thousands and thousands of people, to send a very positive message to this administration, and the rest of the country?

7. When it gets to 2000
the MSM will report it, and people will go, "WTF? Holy shit, that's a lot of people, maybe we aren't doing so well."

At least that's the hope...

9. I'm sure the MSM anchors are all practicing the pained expressions
they'll use when they report this.
