Two CIA Officials Say Novak's a Liar
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 01:38 AM by joemurphy
"The two (CIA) officials say Novak was told, as one source put it, that Plame's work for the CIA "went much further than her being an analyst," and that publishing her name would be "hurtful" and could stymie ongoing intelligence operations and jeopardize her overseas sources

"When he says that he was not told that he was 'endangering' someone, that statement might be technically true," this source says. "Nobody directly told him that she was going to be physically hurt. But that was implicit in that he was told what she did for a living."

"At best, he is parsing words," said the other official. "At worst, he is lying to his readers and the public. Journalists should not lie, I would think." These new accounts, provided by two sources familiar to the investigation, contradict Novak's attempts to downplay his own knowledge about the potential harm to Plame.

Moreover, one of the government officials who has told federal investigators that Novak's account is false has also turned over to investigators contemporaneous notes he made of at least one conversation with Novak. Those notes, according to sources, appear to corroborate the official's version of events."

31. I got it from the WH website.
It is no more touched up than the second one, save, perhaps some color correction. Since the original was a high resolution image, I was able to scan deep into the skin texture and see the make up - no instances of blur or color noise reduction apparent. The second photo is not high res, but again, I can see the make up on the skin but apparently no color correction was used - AP/Reuters photo.

I also have many many other photos of Dumbya from 2000-1, raw and not retouched. He has visibly aged 20 years in just 4 years, IMO.

Here's one from 2000:

Here he is July 2005:

6. What a piece of shit
A government official also questions Novak's claims that the columnist "called the CIA" and "they confirmed Mrs. Wilson's involvement in her husband's mission." Rather, this person says, the CIA at first declined to comment. Still later, the same official contends that Novak was categorically told that Plame had played no role in the selection of her husband for the Niger mission.

"He was told it just wasn't true -- period," said the government official. "But he just went with the story anyway. He just didn't seemed to care very much whether the information was true or not."

She was found in contempt for not testifying. Connect the dots. Novak is not in jail. He testified. Well, before there was any threat of contempt.

Now, hopefully, he lied and he will be caught, but it is clear that he testified.

20. A Fire Novak movement is long overdue
"Any time a journalist purposely deceives his readers, he undermines the newsperson's or news organization's credibility" and "threatens the trust between the reader and reporter."

Readers and viewers need to express their outrage at the continued presence of Novak. Newspapers should drop his syndicated column and CNN needs to get him off their station.

When I read that:

Steve Huntley, the editorial-page editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, which is the flagship newspaper for Novak's syndicated column, says he "implicitly and completely trusts Bob Novak's reporting."

I wasn to scream. In this case Huntley should be out the door with Novak as being complicit in this deception.

Where is the outrage?? I only see it on Dem blogs. Maybe an onslaught of LTTE, letters to the Chicago-Sun Times and the other papers that carry his syndicated column, and letters plus some demonstrations at CNN.

While it seems that he skates the law, don't let him skate freely on by and continue in the media.

47. Novak didn't just out Plame (7/14/03). He went on to out the entire CIA
WMD covert monitoring project, 20 years in the making, destroying all projects and putting all covert agents and contacts at great risk, by exposing the front company Brewster Jennings (7/22/03) It's interesting to me that this second, bigger outing occurred four days after the Brits chief WMD expert David Kelly turned up dead (7/18/03) under extremely suspicious circumstances. He had been whistleblowing to the BBC on the Brits "sexed up" Iraq WMD intel, after the invasion (May 2003). On July 7, 2003, after they had found out who was whistleblowing, they interrogated him and warned Blair that Kelly "could say some uncomfortable things" (could say; not HAD said). Plame then outed. Kelly found dead; his office and computers searched. Whole CIA front company outed.

Too coincidency, no? My guess: The "uncomfortable things" that Kelly "could say" had to do with a plot of plant nukes or other WMDs in Iraq, for political advantage (which would have been great); maybe Kelly foiled the plot, maybe just knew about it; they suspected Plame and outed her immediately (calling at least SIX reporters--overkill--urgency? panic?); then somebody offed Kelly, they got into his computers and found a connection to Brewster Jennings, and they outed and disabled the whole WMD network (greatly increasing their risk of treason charges, and not needed to "punish" Wilson).

I think Blair called Bush, and the treason started at the top. Many of the Bushites were on AF-1 at the time (7/5-12), on the Africa trip, passing around the Plame memo. They'd already set up Plame to outed--by sending Wilson on the wild goose chase to Niger--but the crime got greatly accelerated by the July 7 call from Blair on what Kelly knew, and pushed them to precipitous action, with not much time to devise coherent cover stories. (Such a revelation would have brought down both governments.)

If this scenario is true, we owe a lot of David Kelly--and to any and all who foiled such a plot (others of whom may have paid with their lives). And you've got to wonder about this: One of Kelly's last emails was to Judith Miller. In it, he expressed concern about the "many dark actors playing games."

54. Just read your comment on that thread
and your whole theory makes sense to me. It's been like assembling a puzzle, to get the facts known. Some little pieces have been forgotten, and we have to keep going back, sifting through previous stories, then fitting them in with the current ones.

You have done a masterful job of doing that. I would not have thought of making that connection.
