"Bolton is just what the UN needs at this time", the Repubs say...
What do they mean by that? Just what does the UN need ? Do they need a strong-armed, lying, rude and crude, prude? What does John Bolton have that we need at the UN at this time? Can someone figure that out?

3. The UN aren't having enough group sex - they need someone to
"encourage" them a little..

Also, an opportunity to ask that famous diplomatic question: "when did you stop beating your wife?"

5. that's simple
he's out to destroy it. Discredit it, dismantle it, render it ineffective, make it look like a joke to the rest of the world through infighting, delay tactics and what Bolton does best - bullying.

6. Just politics like everthing else
He plays well to the xenophobioc, nativist base. They could give a flying fuck about the UN or our actual security, This is about the job security of Republican politicians pandering to the worst part of our political culture.

8. Hit the nail on the head
This isn't about the UN. It is about winning and making the president look good to his base. Bolton will have no effect on the UN. We will be left out of most decisions and Bush could care less. Bush has shown he doesn't need the UN for what he wants to do. He knows who ever he appointed would get left out so it was a domestic political win for his base who think being a bully is the american way.
