54. Yep. There's misery-in-waiting.
As a straight female who was involved in a long relationship with a man I found out later was painfully struggling with his attraction to members of the same sex at the time we were together, I can tell you--that's not going to be pretty. Not that you need to have been there to imagine the disaster.

My boyfriend moved away for a job and one of my best friends (who is gay) lived where he was moving, so I told him to get in touch with him......... well, they soon became boyfriends (and I can't believe I didn't know he was gay.......my three best friends are gay..... they were just bridesmen in my wedding!......I thought I would figure that one out!I suppose my friend did me a favor!)

20. Wait a minute!!!
What did this guy look like? Did he have a goatee and kind of a shag haircut with blond hilights? I ask because I watched video footage of a news report about the ex-gay movement that someone posted here last week and there was a guy who was saying that we he came out all of his friends were very supportive and he became somewhat popular. He seemed to be implying that he was only being gay because of all the attention it brought him.

He did have a shaggy blond hairstyle.

He also did say about friends being accepting in a way that implied that there was a seduction in attention (he said people kept telling him how happy they were for him)

33. I think you saw the CNN thing that I saw last week
it told the story of a "conversion camp" run by some fundamentalist group in Memphis.
The stunner in that story was the boy's father, who said that he'd had enough and was exercising his rights as a parent (to ship his son off to get "cured"). God, what a bastard.

John Paulk

FORMER HOMOSEXUAL, FORMER MALE PROSTITUTE, FORMER FEMALE IMPERSONATOR

"Growing up, I heard it all...sissy, queer, fag. Naturally, I believed I was born gay."

I always remember feeling "different" from other boys...I was rejected a lot and the names they called me always hurt. My dad walked away from us when I was four, and I lived with the insecurity that everyone I really loved would walk away, too. Then, as an adult, after trying to fill my emotional needs in homosexual relationships, I created a different personality, "Candi," and lived through her as a female impersonator...it was the only pride I had. But then I met God and He wanted to show me my true identity as a man. I finally found the acceptance I'd been craving all along. I found that His love was completely unconditional. And while Christ was helping me heal the hurt I had buried in my other "self," He showed me He would accept and love me and never leave, ever. Today, I'm happily married and I hear "man, husband, and Christian." I wonder, how many can say the same thing about their own relationships right now?

3. I have no doubt
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 10:53 AM by Teaser
that some small number of sexually confused individuals can have their sexuality successfully altered by a program of intensive propaganda like Exodus. But the vast majority of these people are sexual time bombs, primed for periodic explosions of their sexual nature by this insane outfit.

The resultant ping-ponging in and out of Exodus as "sexuality recidivists" oscillate between their natural sexuality and guilt ridden periods of abstinence and forced heterosexual activity is what keeps Exodus going.

18. I have no doubt either, but I believe the ones who change their
sexuality are probably bi-sexual to begin with. I have known a lot of people of both sexes who swung both ways and eventually ended up in a straight marriage; a famous name comes to mind Anne Heache (sp?), but I really don't believe a true gay person can be changed.

23. I think there is a continuum
of sexuality. On the ends there are certain people who are hard gay or hard straight, and nothing else. And in between there are people with a mixture of tendencies. We tend to collapse this middle group into "bisexual" but it's more complicated than that. I think Exodus primarily goes to work on people in this complex middle region, and pushes them around inside its boundaries.

(or as you put it not hard gay or straight)

It is a religious program that cures the "sin". Parents force their kids into this crap.

27. Oh I agree
But the program only has results on a small number of people in the middle continuum. The hard gays and straights just get a lifetime of psychospiritual damage and oscillating guilt/forgiveness cycles.

28. That's what I always ask
How do you know you were really gay? How do you know you weren't just bi-sexual? It seems to me these people were that. On that CNN segment they had at the end this guy who was gay talking and he told how he goes to church with his boyfriend and I think he does a lot of social work or something like that or phsychological work. One of those, but the CNN segment was way more fair and balanced then this. It's probably the same people.

21. Something I wonder
is if these people just keep everything inside if one day they'll just burst. Especially sexual feelings. If you deny yourself that um time to yourself so to speak and all that then your harmones will build up. I know with me when my harmones build up I feel like popping my body up. So would this happen to them? Can they last without feeling that way sexually? Do they ignore harmonic feelings all together or what?

should participate in anything that attempts to persuade them to change their sexuality at all.

It's something that comes from within a person, and trying to change that is pretty messed up.

5. The more important question is
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 11:31 AM by FreedomAngel82
why don't they find someone who went through the program and DIDN'T change? And I saw a CNN segment from Paula Zhann about this and she and the person she was interviewing was saying how they DON'T KEEP TRACK of ANYTHING. So in other words they don't know. So how do we know these people aren't just paid stooges for this nonsense? And I'd like to see what these people are up to in five years. At least on the CNN segment it was pretty fair and balanced with all types of sides talking about these programs. But hey if you think you can change your ways and don't want to be gay and want to go through these programs then whatever. Doesn't bother me. I just don't want false information out.

11. Here is some of that info...
http://www.lionking.org/~kovu/bible/section10.html

Another example is Kent Philpott's book, The Third Sex, in which he gives the testimonies of six homosexuals who supposedly became heterosexual. Within a year after the book was published, all six of the people written about sent notarized affidavits to the publisher, stating that the book was untrue and that they were all still homosexuals. Nevertheless, the book continued to be printed and sold to an unwary public for eight years afterwards. To this day, people are "praising God" for changes that never took place. The continued publication of that book, along with its promulgation for eight years after having received written denials from the subjects themselves, highlight the extent of deception fundamentalists are willing to go to foster belief in a goal based on illusion rather than reality. With fundamentalism it appears that honesty and truth are expendable items.

Another question, how can these organizations practice psychiatry without a license?

or sooner, they will once again accept the fact that they are gay. In the mean time, they may try women, get married even have children. Then comes the divorce part - I knew a bunch of gay men who tried really hard to be straight when they were young. Now they are all in their 50's. Luckily, many maintained civil relationships with ex-wives, especially when kids were involved and are now giddy grand parents.

48. You cannot deny what is natural
I have been through soemthing that was similar... I was a practicing Muslim for a year and a half and I was listening to practioners that would be considered fundamentalists. I have been told that getting married was "half of the deen." I have been told that being homosexual was a sin and Allah was sure to send me to hell for it.
So in my quest to "please" Allah and to remain true to the deen, I repressed my natural instinct of homosexuality. The results were that I became depressed. Nervous whenever I met with a man to discuss marriage, and I then began questioning my faith. I began to feel that if a religion's doctrines taught intolerance than it wasn't for me. (Plus the thing about not being able to draw did it for me.)

Some people don't want to accept the fact that there are others out there that life their lives differently and that God/dess Divine still accepts them.

A question I brought up to my mom: (who accepts me for the way I am BTW) If God created everybody, including gays, wouldn't he have some gayness in Him?

He had to in order to create them, just as he has to have feminity in order to create women.

An artist cannot conceive of an idea if he doesn't know what it is first.
