some more on smirk and the scouts

http://jameswolcott.com/archives/2005/07/100f.php

-snip-

"First, four scout leaders from Alaska were electrocuted when a tent pole hit an overhead power line on the opening day. Then, 300 scouts fell ill with symptoms of dehydration and fatigue as they waited for hours in the blistering heat for a visit by President Bush. Eventually, severe thunderstorms and high winds forced Mr Bush to reschedule his trip...

"On Wednesday, tens of thousands of scouts waited for Mr Bush for three hours in an open field in their dress uniforms.

"Although the scouts were given exceptional permission to remove their uniform shirts, as long as they were wearing undershirts, many were overcome by the sun and high humidity and temperatures approaching 100F."

undershirts!

why would they make the kids wear undershirts and uniform shirts in the summer? did the Mormons have something to do with this? they are religious underwear freaks.

---------

"exceptional"

did you notice the wording "exceptional permission to remove their uniform shirts"

1. This was a Jamboree, right?
Usually they're more formal than a typical scout camp, though I remember we had to wear our uniforms to mess every day.

5. Oh, THAT I've never heard of, fer sure.
But there are a lot of Mormon BS troops, so it wouldn't surprise me.

I don't think I even OWNED an undershirt when I grew up in KS, and Virginia summers can't be any better.

3. Undershirts in summer?
Are they crazy?
Also, I heard that this boy scout event was only about 50 miles from the White House. Why couldn't Bush have been driven there? Those poor kids wouldn't have had to stand out in the heat for 3 hours...

6. Gives me the creeps, smirk lecturing Scouts on 'morals'
I can't escape the 'Bushler Youth' connotations of this.
