The Bolton misdirection
The neocons are like magicians, using misdirection to distract the media and citizens from the real issues. That's why they are not afraid to stir up controversy in one area if it pulls people's attention away from an area where they're busy doing their worst.

As far as the Bolton appointment this morning is concerned, the neocons saw that the SCOTUS nomination did not pull the press away from the Rove affair because the Roberts was not immediately seen radical enough even though * clearly went against every single shred of common sense thinking on the appointment (woman, minority, etc.). It didn't hold back the press on Rove.

So why not appoint Bolton right away? With Washington away on holiday why not have the media focussing their attention on a controversy which will not amount to a hill of beans difference? We already know that * does not care about what people think of him. The media now conveniently has something to consume them for the next month, that's speculation on what the Senate will do when they reconvene.

What this says about Rove is important. I think that the WH is very, very worried about Fitz and the grand jury. I think that they already know where the investigation is going and that it involves both Bush and Cheney. They don't give a damn what they do to pull the real controversy away from the media's attention.

I now believe that *everything* this WH does is completely and totally motivated by politics. Absolutely zero consideration is given to the popularity of their actions, or of the consequences to anybody. Their sole concern is political exploitability. They are totally unafraid. That's very dangerous and scary.

I sincerely hope that the misdirection isn't concealing something nefarious concerning the Rove affair. If I were a journalist working in DC I would have my ear to the ground right now.

1. It's scary. All the negative attention, RE:Bolton, which
they must have expected, also leads me to believe they're hiding something, or at the very least trying to distract, as is their m.o. I hope Fitz is done with his investigation soon!

2. more than Bushler, Cheney, and their appointees
It's going to hit up a bunch of behind-the-scenes neocon "activists," too (e.g. Michael Ledeen).

3. Bad strategy
The Bolton appointment does not pull attention away from Rove controversy, because he is likely to end up in the middle of it.

4. That's my point.
They don't give a damn about that. They only see the political expediency of it. Consequences are unimportant to these people. We've already seen that in spades. We're dealing with total and complete amorality.

5. But it's not just the red-herring factor. This administration...
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 05:38 PM by newswolf56
never does anything that does not somehow advance the GOPorker/Christofascist agenda. In Bolton's case, this is probably hastening the destruction of the United Nations by the president's appointment of a reactionary/obstructionist who will make U.N. operations (already hamstrung by the desperate need for reform) that much more impossible, thereby further discrediting the U.N. and agitating even more anti-U.N. ferment. The red-herring factor -- the distraction of the press from the vendetta against Plame and Wilson -- is merely a bonus for the Bush Administration.

As to the perpetrator(s) of the Plame/Wilson vendetta, I believe the order came from Bush himself -- given this administration's rigid hierarchy, lockstep ideological discipline and Nazi-like fealty to the leader (more closely akin to der fuehrerprinzip than anything in U.S. history) -- no other alternative makes any sense at all: no one would have dared take the initiative unless der Bushler himself had so commanded. But I doubt anyone will ever be able to prove the accusation, and even if the evidence were to be ferreted out, this outlaw administration will do whatever is necessary to suppress it, just as they have suppressed the most revealing disclosures from Abu Ghraib.

Edit: for clarity.

8. Cover-up and conspiracy are closely linked.
If there was a cover-up, which is fairly apparent at this point even considering just the public record, there is an apparent conspiracy to obstruct justice here. All they need to do is find out "what the president knew and when did he know it". However, we *know* that the President has known about this for two years. If there is a cover-up, he has to have been part of it.

I have no idea what the GJ and Fitz have in their pockets. I have a sneaking suspicion that when this thing hits, it's going to be very, very big and that's precisely why it has taken this long for things to come out.

What would you do if you were Fitz and you had these guys by the short hairs?

6. A fucking asshole will the the UN spokesperson, sounds realistic
given the nature of these neocons, a fucking asshole fist the bill
perfectly. A serial abuser, a liar and a bully is surely gonna get
lots of foreign nations to believe him when he trumpets the adgenda
of his weapons-proliferator-aggressive-war-making terrorist backers.

He is a fair example of the face of the bush criminal establishment,
and has no place whatsoever near a constitutional republic of the
people. But that is not what the USA is under bush, it is nothing
more than the criminal's right arm, and in that sense, why not give
and asshole a highly visible position. Then he'll stir up hatred,
war and more vile crap, and we can all pay for it, moaning about how
cheated we are of any liberty, any inkling of choice in how our
democracy is wrecked and totalled on a concrete embutment.

Watching america under bush, is like watching a slow motion video of an
f-15 hitting a 5 meter thick block of steel-reinforced concrete. And
each moment of the video, so much artistry is destroyed, so much
beauty betrayed in to the bent pending explosion of a deranged pilot
who thinks he can fly through solid matter.

And to complete the effect, the casting director picks a flaming
asshole to represent the crash-in-progress. It does indeed fit with
the play.

7. Dead Cat Bounce Anyone?
I just tuned in and already it looks like the Bolton story is losing its shelf life. Not quite the disruption of "Rovian" proportions this regime needs.

This was an "in your face" spiteful move by this regime to pander to its base by tweaking the Democrats and the UN. If there was any calculated move here it was to buck up meester booosh's plunging approval ratings. Hopefully there'll be enough red meat thrown to keep the numbers from sliding out of the lower 40s.

Call me optimistic, but I see the over-reaching and pandering to the coven starting to backfire for meester boosh and his oxygen thieves. They know this fall is gonna be brutal as the Fitzgerald inquiry will make some sort of major finding...and this regime is preparing for the worst. They're taking any little victory they can get...tap dancing as fast as they can. Here's hoping when they finally fall, it'll be far and very hard.

9. Precisely.
I also think that they don't give a damn about what they do.

I sincerely hope you are correct about Bolton appt not having the bounce so we can get back on the big issues.

10. We could claim that with just about everything they do
sometimes I think we tie ourselves into pretzel knots trying to imagine the machinations that may or may not be happening. We'll be paralyzed as we stop after every action and ask "Is this a misdirection?"

13. But we always think that something is misdirection for something else
Social Security. DSM. Bolton. The War.

Sometimes I think we give these bozos too much credit.

But indeed, I don't doubt that Roberts was political to distract from Rove.

But they've been threatening this with Bolton for a while.
