If all drugs were legal which ones would you use?
If the laws were changed, and ALL drugs were available from your corner
shop/apothecary, which ones would you use? Which ones would you try?

This would include of course, drugs already available at medicinal grade.
They would all be priced reasonably, and come with full guidance on
taking them, with a warning label explaining dosages and handling.

Would you just stick to the drugs you use today, or would you be curious
about others?

Percadin?
Cocaine?
Morphine?
Opium?
Hash?
Specific variety of cannabis?
LSD (Lysergic Acid-diethylamide-25R)?
Ecstacy?
Valium?
Injected Niacin?

10. Do it with some friends
and find a comfortable place. Oh, and depending upon the strength (or number of hits you're taking) plan for at least 12 hours of insanity ;)

It's fun though, I would recommend it once, after that it's your decision.

25. a beach
...where you can get in the water.

The ecstacy of merging with the ocean on an acid trip is magnificent.

You know, baby hawaiian woodrose seeds (legal) contain lysergic acid
amides, and are quite close to an acid trip. I've heard this of
morning glory seeds too, but have never experimented to find out.

baby woodrose seeds can be used to replace the chemical process of more
than half of the chemical synthesis of LSD itself, as ergot fungus is
another natural source of LS amides.

Beaches, melting in to a million grains of sand. :-)

40. The chemical synthesis, is divine
There is no question that pure LSD-25R is the bees knees... if you
get a good clean hit (not speedy with that racy feeling in your
throat)... its the platinum standard of halucinogens.

When i find the local apothecary, there's always woodrose seeds, that
i have tested and found very effective. They have less "downtime" than
the aftereffects of acid...

In my opinion, in near 100 acid trips, the downtime of the next day or
two can be a bit rough. (british for you're exhausted) It seems once
the halicinogen punches through the ego, it takes a couple of days to
reform as if you burn the energy of 3 days in 8 hours of blazing.

My friend used to call old acid trippers "loose rubber bands", and he
said the human mind was like a rubber band, and that acid stretches it
way out... and doing acid too many times left the band without any snap
back. In that sense, it can take days for the band to snap back, for
you not to be able to breathe and feel all of life as unified with
your own breath. :-)

70. I loved acid, but man did I ever get paranoid.. I enjoyed it
more when I was tripping with friends.. My most enjoyable trip was when I took a hit of Orange Sunshine with 3 other sailors in Curaco south america 1971. We met this crazy cab driver with a trunk load of pot. The cab driver took us back into the jungles (back roads) showing us marijuana plants and ended up dropping us off at a women debtor prison. This prison freaked us out when we saw the high cement walls and armed guards. The cab driver said go in through the main gate and enjoy. To our amazement half the ship had already beat us there..

76. it seems
to me that we are talking about a sort of psychic energy. Nothing is free, and that extra bit one experiences means a day or so of a bit less of whatever that is. It's good to be gentle and forgiving with one's self, watch the solar plexus and avoid stressful situations. This give and take of energy can be a lesson about balance, among 'other' things. :-)

Coincidently, I recently went through my house and cleaned out some old cobwebs.

4. It would not change my drug usage at all
I wouldn't think of them any differently since I'm not all that concerned with the law right now. I won't state which drugs I have used, but I have never made the decision to use or not use something based on it's legality, only it's safety.

Therefore, Heroine is definitely out of the question, whereas cannabis is a definite drug of choice. If they were made legal, I could just be less shady about it :D

then you have to start talking about all the Shulgin derivates (2C-B, T2C-I, etc.) from MDMA. There's also ALD, a derivative of LSD that has a longer half-life (longer trip), DMT, Ketamine, GSB, etc.

His list was hardly complete, but I think we all got the point :D

48. Yea i figured one halucinogen gets 'em all
Once you've crossed the boundary of a trip, there is no relative
memory of a better trip. Like fine dining, each meal stands on its
own, and whether the soup be ergot fungus, mescaline or Sandoz acid,
they're all "soup"

...as different from steak, or wines. :-)

People that have not eaten every dish on the menu, are poorly informed
in our drugs culture, funny that... and yet to sample every dish is its
own risk/reward as well... Would the world right side up, perhaps
trained druggists would administer to persons who din't know their
drugs, so at least they got clear instructions and quality advise.

...unlike from the newspaper or the drugs education fuckup.

It's less the illegality of it than the deaths/brain damage it's said to have caused that scares me off, though.

Same with LSD. I'm all for altered experience, but not paranoia or mental illness (or shall we say, MORE mental illness).

20. Most of the scary stories you hear
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 06:14 PM by Bush in Berkeley
are anti-drug spin. The deaths from ecstacy are usually caused by heat stroke (in a club/rave, not drinking water, sweating like mad for 8 hours). It will put holes in your brain, but only with repeated use. One time won't hurt you at all, at least in my opinion. I haven't known anyone to go crazy after MDMA or LSD usage.

As with everything else, moderation is the key. Even alcohol can kill you.

77. The holes in the brain thing is false.
If you'd like I will look up the link to prove; but what happened was the researcher/scientist was using METH INSTEAD of MDMA on his test monkeys.(guess what...politically motivated; suprise suprise.) It dosen't put holes in your brain at all. Of course, if mixed/cut with something else; who knows. Therefore the illegality being the most dangerous thing of all.
Gotta love those test kits......

59. Ecstasy was used safely until 1983?, I believe, then
the gov. made it illegal when it found out people were using it for pleasure. It was being used to treat victims of PTSD quite successfully and was fairly safe. The swiss cheese brain rot came after it was illegal and made dirty from illegal drug manufacturers.
I read all of this while researching methods used to treat PTSD in my daughter. I seriously wish it was still being used (clean). I hear it saved many lives from years of more agony and suffering.

26. I doubt if I'd take any of them, unless there was a very specific reason.
For example, if I had terminal cancer, and was in a lot of pain and couldn't afford a doctor's expensive treatments, I might try morphine. But without that pre-condition, definitely not.

I might take Niacin if I thought I had a deficiency of it, although, I would probably also want legal access to a laboratory to run a blood analysis first.

Here's where I might make an exception. I'd probably give up smoking tobacco IF I could legally buy and use cannabis. But since this is all hypothetical, I will likely keep smoking tobacco and not touching marijuana, 'cause I truthfully don't see any of these controlled substance laws changing anytime soon.

36. niacin
I think that's vitamin B-12. Well, if you take it in high dosages, it
causes the capillaries in the skin to dialate, and all your blood
rushes to your skin... it feels like burning almost, and it is sort of
a rush.. and its just a vitamin when you're desperate for a cheap
thrill. ;-)

Point is made, really to show that the way herbal medicines and
vitamins are already a quasi medcine "drugs" industry anyways, so using
that model, would not legal "drugs" be just an extension on the existing
herbalist /vitamin shoppe.

... and just to show how silly the drugs warriors are, they might try to
outlaw a required nutrient to the body (niacin) because it can give
you a rush.

Usually when I say I have never used an illegal drug in my life (unless I got an added bonus in breastmilk, my mother liked to party) people either don't believe me or look at me like I just climbed out of the mothership.

I'm all for legalization of at least some of the less-risky drugs, even though I have no interest in trying most of them. Just because I have reasons to abstain, primarily a family history of addictions, that doesn't mean anybody else needs to.

52. IF they were legal...
I'd use marijuana fairly regularly, and opium occasionally. Maybe LSD about twice a year. That's pretty much it.

62. Morphine, definately...
My dad was known to have tried a few things in his day, but he always wondered what morphine would feel like.

When I was in my twenties, he had a heart attack, and I was the first family member to make it to the hospital. He was lying on a gurney, covered in blood and looking VERY ashen. I was on the verge of crying when he opened his eyes.

"Wazza matter?", he slurred. He was SMILING. "What are you so happy about?", I asked, shocked.

"Morphine" he sweetly answered. "It's everything I ever imagined it would be".

He made a complete recovery, and never remembered the exchange. But I did.

Morphine, definately......

64. I was attached to a morphine pump
after my C-section. What bliss!

Then they pulled it out, and I sank immediately into post-partum depression (short-lived, thank Goddess).

65. Meh...morphine was okay
I had huge bottles of liquid morphine, with the instructions to "take enough that you stop hurting, you'd pass out before you could overdose." I didn't get any euphoria from it, it just cut the pain and let me sleep. It also made me feel uncomfortably fuzzy-headed, much like NyQuil.

If all drugs were legal, I might try speed--except that, given how I feel about caffeine, I'd probably like it *too* much. :scared:

The big benefit to legalization, as far as I'm concerned, would be not having to shell out an extra $85 for the doctor's visit on top of the cost of medicine.

71. The morphine I had didn't impress me much.
Of course, I'm sure in the hospital they don't want you to get high necessarily, just calm enough to where they don't have to deal with you.

After a day or so of hitting my "button" every seven minutes, I got a pretty uncomfortable dull headache, and just a feeling like when you smoke yourself straight. I remember very little, though, so I guess it was working to some extent.

72. There's a few on there I'd try.
The idea that legalizing drugs would turn everyone into a heroin addict is ridiculous, but the reason I'd try some others in that situation is not because of the legality or illegality of it but the fact that being illegal makes it too much trouble to get.

78. Gosh, with all that choice
I'd probably just stick with weed. It would be so nice to get various
varieties with their chemical composition on the label, but then i'd
be selecting amongst various cannabis varieties, not other drugs.

I might get an LSD hit, 1000 mikes... for a special occasion every few
years or so.

I'd also be curious to see what opium was like, but probably after
dabbling, would be back to weed.

As this thread tells, it seems most folks don't fall in to the gateway
drugs theory, and if it were all available at the corner shop, most
persons would stick with cannabis leaving all the others to gather
dust.

It does indeed seem that all the "herbal" drugs are popular, shrooms,
mescaline, opium poppies... and the chemical ones not. Interesting
that.
