Let's Have An Open, Honest Discussion about President Hillary Clinton
I think that we should have an open, honest, straight-forward discussion about the possibility of Hillary being the next President of the United States.

What do you think?

Will you support her candidacy?

She is hated by far to many people and the hatred is too deep seated.

33. thank you
it's almost visceral for some. she disappoints me, and i haven't really seen her come out in support of anything that seems to matter except for universal health care. i expect my representative to support that, so it doesn't count. her coldness is also a problem, although i respect her intelligence.

sorry, can't go there.

2. Oh please not here, not now
This is absolutely the worst topic to bring up in GD or GD:P. Nothing constructive ever comes out of it and all it winds up doing is causing another flamewar between the moderates and the left-liberals.

There is a time and place for that. But why now? Why when the election is nearly 4 years away?

6. Well, first let me say..
That I think we need to be concentrating on the 2006 mid-term elections first and foremost.

Putting the Congress back in Democratic control will open the possibility that we can get some serious investigations of the Bushie crime team going, and possibly impeachment.

So I think 2006 is where our attention needs to be.

Now having said that, I can't say whether I would support Sen. Clinton in a Presidential bid or not. I would need to see what other candidates are out there.

Whatever candidate best represents the values and interests of African-Americans, is who I will support.

I have stated my two reasons for her not to run before.
1} She wont crack the south and math wise we need a red state.
2) She's too divise among democrats and will split our population among the greens
With that said I am a democrat and I will support the nomination whoever it is. Personaly I am hoping for a Clark/Conyers ticket

11. Blech.
Please no. Not "no" to the discussion, discuss it all you want. But if she throws in her hat during the primaries, I'm going to oppose her alllll the way.

If she is the nom (and seriously, it's NOT going to happen), I will have to decide what to do at that point. Might be voting third party for the top of the ticket like I used to. I won't want to, but if she's it, I won't have much choice.

I'll still vote for other good Dems on the ticket.

The repubs hate her, she's too moderate for most dems and centrists tend to dislike her on personal issues, which can sway thier votes as much or more than policy.

She hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell, which is good because you can mark me down as another "I'd rather vote for the as-yet-unknown Green canidate."

She would need to guarantee Ohio or some combination of Southern states greater >= 270 electoral votes.

I don't care how popular she is in the North East, but John Kerry lost fucking Iowa last time around and I really doubt that state had serious fraud issues the same way FL, OH and NV did.

Hillary runs serious risks in swing states like WI, IA, and MN compared to a generic dem pick in my opinion. There is no possible way she would win MO or other red states.

Also one must question the detrimental effect a strong Republican turnout would have on the coat-tail races in the unlikely event of a slim Hillary electoral majority.

Whoever runs is going to have to have a moderate VP and be harcore, or a hardcore VP and be moderate. There's no trying to make half the party happy this time around.

24. Though I would not vote for Hilary, I do have some questions
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 09:48 PM by Crazy Guggenheim
for some who would support her.

(1) Are you ready for the media onslaught? If you think the media was bad in 2004, wait until they get ahold of Hilary.

(2) A Karl Rove type Republican campaign ........ Hmmmm .....
Did Hilary kill Vince Foster?

(3) Is Hilary a lesbian?

(4) Whitewater. I know the Clintons were not guilty. But still, are the Repubs going to use and frame it they were?

(5) If we are still in Iraq, what's her postion on it?

(6) She the chair of a DLC Committee. I hate to say it but .....

(7) An off question. What makes anyone think that she is going to run? Hilary has not said anything about running. It's been a RW talking point for a few years that she is going to run. I don't think that she is. She is not preparing herself like she is; simply playing to the middle is not preparing oneself.

28. The answer is
NO. No more pandering to undemocratic ideas because the rightwing has temporarily made them fashionable through deceit. No more police state, militaristic hubris, etc.. I plan to vote for someone that represents the best in America, it's ingenuity, a sense of international co-operation to make the world a better place (real leadership), and justice and constitutional civil liberties at home. If that idea is passe, then too bad.

Whoever runs as a Republican you can bet your asthma that he/she will distance themselves from anybody in the GOP who even smells unpopular, and winking and smirking privately to the far right fundies. Get ready for "a different kind of republican" who's a "reformer who gets results" another "beltway outsider" with "compassionate conservatism".

If the GOP runs McCain, the storyline is already written about how hard he worked to oppose Smirk and the excesses of his administration, leading the way as a real, old school moderate Republican.

If they run anybody else they'll have to spend a little money to paint the picture, but they'll still paint it pretty. And unless the GOP runs Gilligan, the Republican will have held more offices longer than she has.

32. Here's Why I Posted This Thread
Like it or not, Democrats are stuck with Hillary because the lazy-ass media love "celebrity" politicians, and Hillary gets them ratings whether you love or hate her, she gets them numbers. Hillary will be the focus of the media attention until the Democrats choose another nominee entirely in 2008.

I'm from NY, and I don't think that Hillary truly represents the will of the people of NY who didn't want this war, a war she voted for because of her own political expedience. Also, I suspect that the corporatists will be more than happy with a President Hillary Clinton. Under her husband, they got NAFTA, MFN with China, mega-media monopolies, and welfare reform. They will get the same from Hillary.

Would I support her in 2008? No. Not even if she got the nomination. Compromising your political integrity leads to failure.

34. The support someone else
... in the primary. Start a "draft Michael Moore" or whoever drive. I agree with you wholeheartedly in your assessment of Hillary, but we cannot just be against another Clinton presidency. The point is to start a media buzz about someone else so that they appear inevitable--you know, the way Bush did in the 2000 primary.

42. This might be one of the candidacies where all the
media attention isn't going to work. I think many left of center voters will not go along with it. One thing is "electability"; after the last election I don't think people are going to buy it. As far as a coporate type, the business people will go for the Repubs and not the Repub-lite.

39. I can't see how she can win the White House
If she were nominated I would support her, of course, but only out of my growing hatred for all things Repukelican.

I don't harbor any great hopes of things changing for the better if she was to be elected, however. She is too close to the DLC kind of Democratic Party, and that is anathema to me. In the long run I continue to maintain that we need to elect someone from the outside, whether it be Dean or Clarke or someone we haven't seen yet.

Hilary is part of the permanent government so any changes in US policy vis a vis Iraq, etc., will be cosmetic, if that much.
